Scarp 1 or Strat 1 for Two persons

Looking for help. Basically looking at these Two tents used for the odd weekend for Myself and the Mrs. This is for 3 season use only. I know its a compromise but was wondering has anyone on here have one of these tents and have used it with a 2nd person. And what was your experiences.
I am trying to keep it as light as possible.

Thank You

Mole has; no doubt he will tell you all about it.

I've got a Scarp 1 - would not be too keen on two-up, although as it is big can see how it might work. What price comfort?

I've just got the Strat 2 - yet to use in anger; New Year.

I wouldn't want to make too much of a habit sleeping 2 in the Scarp1 - as Ed says Scarp 2 or Strat 2 loads of space and extra comfort for hardly any weight penalty.

Yeah sorry Mole, but I thought there maybe others on this site that may have these and share experiences
But looks like it maybe the Strat 1 which I was looking at before.

:) I get the impression that the majority on here are singletons when it comes to their shelters. (As am I).

Have you given up altogether on the Drift then?
Edit: Just seen your PM on OM - and replied-(notifications system broke there years ago!)

How much does your missus mind roughing it and how often will she be going with you? I've not got either of these tents but have seen a Scarp 1, own an Akto and had a Laser Comp and I would not want to share it and my wife definitely wouldn't want to. I'd forego the small weight penalty for a tent that is designed with 2 people in mind if it was anything other than a one off. The logistics of 2 in a very small tent, particularly in winter or bad weather can be a mare. It's not so bad in the summer with good weather as you can sit around outside and just use it for sleep. That's not an option if the weather is arse.

fox160, didn't you mention that you found the Zephyros 2 xl "claustraphobic"
this is a very roomy tent compared to a standard 2 person tent.
if so i would imagine a standard 1 person tent would be even more so ,

Scarp 1 is only 300 grams lighter than the Scarp 2, the Strato is the same difference.

For 300 grams i don't see any point risking it.

Thanks Guys

Think i mentioned this in your other thread, but my 2 main problems with my SS2 is:

1/ Fly needs re-tensioning
2/ A floor that'd make a bouncy castle and 100 litres of baby oil seem like it's grippy

Uneven ground doesn't seem to make any difference to #1, but if you're at an angle #2 will be a nightmare.

As far as i know the Scarp uses the same floor though so #2 is likely to be the same (could be wrong, please check to be sure)

I can't imagine to many scenarios where there would be enough flat ground to pitch a Scarp1/SS1 and not a Scarp2/SS2

Either way 2 up in a SS2 is going to be a damn site more comfortable than 2 up in a SS1, on rough or flat ground.

We only did it the once and the Scarp1 with the missus in means I don't slip around and off my mat in summer :). There was no room for kit at the sides and little for turning over. I think we may have had to put our 3/4 prolites head to tail to get them flat though we didn't sleep that way round. If doing it regularly I would be concerned about rolling against the inner zip as I move around a lot in my sleep

In the next few months we will have a wider inner for the Scarp 1 so that it can take two std mats (50cm w) side by side with a bit to spare.
At the moment you need to drop the inner by undoing the outermost clip on each side, with the new "for 2" inner you will not need to do that.
Of course it means the vestibules will be a bit smaller but when solo then you will be able to make one of them larger by undoing a clip.
Not official yet but should happen soon.

Is this the extra wide inner now listed on the Tarptent site?

As it say's 'extra wide inner'one assumes so; don't see anything on dimensions though.

I wondered if it would be an inner specifically for two but looks to be the new standard inner for 2016 that's adjustable, floor width 81-132cm

Looks a nice incremental upgrade. Better pole, adjustable inner and better pockets. Would still have liked T zips on inner, repositioned roof vents over door, stronger pole sleeve with two tieout loops each side.

The Scarp1 is one of the best tents ever made.

For two I'd get the scarp2 one for sale on OM ...too tight in the scarp1 plus your loosing porch space which isn't huge to start

The new inner is the standard Scarp 1 inner from now on.
(there are some of the previous versions left , could be a good time to order a spare or say a solid if you have a mesh one, 25% off the std price for the old inners only)
The wider inner is pictured on the web site , looks like this :

it has new off the floor pockets too :

Will the new inner be available separately if Scarp owners want to upgrade their existing tent?

Seems like it's providing a solution for a problem that doesn't exist to me

If you want a 2 person Scarp surely you'd just buy the Scarp2?
Scarp2 is only 250g heavier, footprint is pretty much the same on both (S1 os 40 narrower on the fly, but the inner is the same just not widest point to widest point) so it just seems like a pointless update to me, just adding weight for a solution that i've never heard anyone using a Scarp2 complain about (i need more room).

Very odd "update"

^ the problem does exist, hence this thread...:)

As Shakespeare once said "1 persons odd request does not a problem make"

In all seriousness apart from said op i've never once read, heard or seen anyone ask for more inner space in a Scarp1.
Why make a already roomy tent bigger when there's a bigger version already available, makes absolutely no sense.

Especially when you consider most folks would prefer a scarp1 a little lighter
