"dating" area

I just recently found this forum. This far it seems interesting - people are, still, respectful with focus on sharing ideas without degrading others. Hope I'm right.
I used to be in a Swedish outdoors-forum but the tone was kinda arrogant, mostly, and lots of know-it-alls. A term arose there: the Hillebergers - hilleberg tents or die.
Well. There was one thing, that was never solved: personal ads/contact category. A lot of single people were trying to find other people with same interest for the outdoors, but out in the woods or in mountains you don't go showing your status with text on your jacket/backpack/hat or whatever. And many thought the forum lacked a category for contacts.
But, doesn't only have to narrow it down to dating. Could be somebody looking for hike-buddy on a specific trip. Or whatever comes to mind. And yeah...I know it's an international forum, but I think solving that problem is up to people wanting to get connected, not the forum itself.
Yes I'm single. No, not looking for dates - I have full-time job and 4 kids, can barely get enough sleep as it is.

You could use the places & planning forum to appeal for some company Luis

eg I'm planning to hike A-Z on xyz, would anybody like to join me.

Luis - any male looking for a 'romantic female' date with a member on here will be on to 'shortcomings' :bag:

He specificaly said it didn't need to be a Lady/'romantic' partner - but he didn't exclude it either.

The membership of this forum is very skewed towards almost exclusively males. It would be nice/more balanced if it were less so - at least I feel so.
I enjoy male company, but an all male 'club' can become a "male getto" - which isn't nice……etc. etc.

PS. - most of the males I've 'met' on Trek-lite are really decent, friendly guys………..Gentlemen in fact :D

Is sex all these Scandies ever think about??

I head outdoors to get away from "company".

Well, guess this thread's not for you then.
Anywhooo...it wasn't for me. As I said: not on the lookout. But there are others who might be/will become. Or just for a hike. In other words, it's an idea for the forum, not for me or cathyjc or gadgetuk or anybody else specifically.
I think the gender-deal isn't really an issue. That's up to each n one of us. I've been hetero all my life, doesn't mean that I will be for the rest of it. If nothing bad happens I have some 40+ years to go - anything can happen in 40 years (that's more than I lived up to this day) so why would I wanna limit myself? I guess a lot of the UL-hikers were heavy-duty-hikers at one point or another and at some point changed their mind... ;-)

PS. - when I asked "Why?" ………I meant why the scarcity of females…….. not why a "find a partner" area of forum.

Next time I'm heading somewhere I'll post it here so if anyone wants to tag along or meet along the way.

...if anyone shows up, I will definitely count it as a date..

In that Swedish forum I mentioned, they have a segregated category just for women. Dunno why the segregation...

- yeah, I got that. I ask myself that as well, not only this forum, but other too. I used to be active within different associations...all guys. They were "clubs" for "gentlemen" (old men) for mutual admiration - none of them actually accomplished anything, except for spending tax-money on expensive cookies and coffee.

So...how to attract more women, to this forum that is, for it to be of more equal weight/perspective? And to start a contact category...

What's the % of male to female hikers interested in UL. Perhaps the membership of this forum mirrors the figures.
As for dating a Walker, hiker, climber, surfer or general outdoor type. NEVER!!
Many decades ago I met a very pretty girl classical trained dancer who liked a bit of outdoors adventure.
We started dating etc etc. 18 months later she's on a climbing wall 3 times a week and leading harder routes than me. b@@@H!!!
Never again.
