I thought I would move this from the this old thing thread so people can get an initial idea of the set up.

3F UL Gear Solid Inner - £43.00 approx. inc postage
225cm x 80cm x120cm (L x W x H)
350 grams

Initial impressions are good, it pitches pretty tight at around 120cm.

Plenty attention to detail…

Reinforced sections on groundsheet at tie outs:-

Corner pockets (enough for phone and watch, all you need imo):-

3F solid inner pitched inside the ASTA Mid using A Poles.

Inner with Regular length Neoair.
IMG_20160918_122237.jpg

Space to side of mat with Neoair flush to door – 22cms

IMG_20160917_183117.jpg

Clearance at top and bottom of mat - 16cm (although this is height restricted).

IMG_20160917_183152.jpg

Example of contact with inner using PD600 (this is my biggest sleeping bag so worst case scenario for me). It is touching the walls of the inner, more so at the foot than the head (other Mid inners would be the same?...)

Observations on pitching.

The standard mesh inner for the Asta Mid is 70cm wide (with an offshoot section that is 140cm wide). The 3F is 80cm so to make it fit using a single pole, the pole needed to be offset by around 10cm closer to the entrance. Adjusting the pole this way skews the fly a bit which increases the catenary angle of the rear seams of the fly (hope you understand what i mean by this). The clearance between the seams of the fly and the back seams of the inner is then quite small – they are not touching but the gap is narrow. Clearance between the inner and the fly along the sides and the back is fine - its only restricted on the rear seams.

It may work better using an A frame pole set up, i did try it but ran out of time and need to mess around a bit more. Either way I was happy enough with the fit using the single pole, it may be better with an A pole. I'd be interested in the views of any Khufu or Duomid owners who buy this inner, or any other experience of inners and Mids for that matter.

Weight after adding own bits like shock cord loops, hanging krab etc…

Asta Mid flysheet – 540grams
3F solid inner – 372grams
Peg Bag (6 x Y Beams 90g , 4 x 6inch Eastons 48g, 2 x Ti Crooks 12g) – 142grams
Pole Joiner – 34grams (could be made smaller)

Total: 540g + 372g + 142g + 34g = 1088g

All I need to do now is get out in it!:)

Hope this helps.

Nice post, thanks for all the great pictures.

I'll post some pictures and experiences when mine arrives. Looks like it's going be good fit inside the Khufu.

On paper, the dimensions of the Asta and the Khufu look very close - I would guess it's the closest matching Mid. You might have a small issue like me with clearance between the inner rear seams and the fly seams.

For hanging, I've got a mini karabiner hanging from a loop at the apex of the fly. I've attached a shock cord loop with a cord lock to the inner which snaps into the krab then I pull the shock cord tight. I need to pull it as tight (high) as possible.
I tried 3 different ways today (line loks, dyneema etc) this was by far the best.

Good idea, thanks. Will probably end up doing the same.

I have the same issue with my 2/3 mesh inner on the exact same location as you mentioned. The pole is also slightly angled when pitched.

Don't like using 2 poles, though.

Thanks for the heads up on this bud. Bargain price if decent quality and should go great with my Hexamid for Autumn/Winter. The dimensions look perfect for me.

It's only about 100g more than other cottage sellers and £100 less :)

Is sleeping bag/inner contact ever a problem?

We experienced our first impressive misting this summer in sustained heavy rain, I was glad of the space in our Drift 4 as although the inner DWR dealt with the not insignificant amount of moisture floating about inside the fly, I would expect contact with the inner would have wicked it through..

Did you get stung by Costoms and Excise charges ??

I ordered one and am waiting . I'm used ordering stuff from the US but not from China (at least not at taxable levels).

Think but not certain, that all imports from China are import duty free, bit of a good deal they worked out.

Could do with a winter inner for my SL3, I'm sure you'll get round to trying it sometime

In a SL3, that arrangement would surely be less useful spacewise than a single? In the way even more. The poles wouldn't reach anywhere near the sides, ( they'd need to be really long to do so and would too shallow a slope for decent support IMO)

I had a message from Tony offering $5 off the asta mid after it had sat in my cart for a while, but nothing off the inner.

What diameter pole would be needed for this type of tarp if not using a walking pole? As in when does an alloy pole stop becoming bendy? I was thinking of an 11mm pole cut to length but is that too thin..?

IMO 11mm is too small......16mm dia 7045 T6 alloy would be ideal.
