At that price the PHD Ultra Pullover looks like a good competitor; best down piece of clothing I own.

I am not a PHD fanboy either, their bags are way too snug and mysterious...

If I were going to spend the amount of money for a PHD Ultra, I'd like to know the fill weight - or at least get a good feel of one in the flesh.

I've got one too (PHD Ultra that is :dude:) - I agree with Ed - it's max warmth /gram of any down garment I've seen.

I've worn down garments "while on the move" probably 5 days in 20 years. What I do always test for in case I have to wear them in such situations is range of movement. When I tried this jacket on it rose up by a very large amount when simulating going from being crusifxed(cruicformed?, there should be a word for this dammit!) to overhead planting of a tool. This left the waistbamd stuck at midrift level. It also wasn't going to move down again of its own accord.

Conversely all the phd stuff I have, though they don't extol the technical nature of the cut so much is actually cut in such a way it would work for me if I needed it to. It fits where it needs to and they don't seem to be fussed about being a "bit blousson" to allow you to move even if it looks a bit ####.

edit: forgot to say, it totally didn't fit me across the back either. I would have had to have gone up a size or two, resulting in waist void.

I just came across this post. Sportsshoes has it for £60, in case you didn't know.
Editted to add: Looking round the internet, it seems to be available only through Sportsshoes, so I guess you did know the price. Is Higherstate a Sportsshoes own brand thing?

the New MSR one hand squeeze pump water filter (which unfortunately has now gone back to MSR)
has to be on my wish list until it hits the market ,
picture taken just before the platy failure mentioned earlier .

Loaned to Mr ULOG (mark) for our three weeks in India to test , the filter proved itself to be a great bit of kit , it was unveiled at the Friedrichshafen trade show earlier this year .

Think it's called an MSR Trailshot Filter - quite a few pics and stats on Google

as el said ADz

I'm liking the look of it. Looks like a good compromise between minimalist filter and hand pump. I was considering going back to the standard squeeze because I'm not fond of the flow rate on the mini. Mine does seem slower than other mini's though, even after a backwash. The new MSR one looks much quicker and more versatile with not much of a weight penalty.

It's now added to the list :)
