Selling on trek-lite

Just a heads up folks ...

Within the next few months I will be making some changes to member permissions with regards to selling on the forum, going forward I propose to make selling in the classifieds a benefit of being a donating member, currently this is open to anyone with a minimum of 50 posts.

I've always been honest and upfront about how trek-lite is managed and maintained, as membership has grown and the boards are busier than ever I now feel it's the correct time to introduce this change. Trek-lite doesn't receive any income, whether that's from advertising or other investment like a lot of popular forums do, the only way I can keep this place running is with the support of the community.

Further information about being a supporting member can be found here

I'll send out a reminder with details over the next few weeks.

Okay folks I'm looking to implement this from March 1st

I will be purging a lot of the old classified threads also, probably anything over 12 months old and still showing as unsold I will delete, so if you've got anything which might need a bump now is a good time to do it.

Thanks for your ongoing support

Will the 50 post minimum ever be lowered for people trying to sell? I've got some things I'd want to sell but don't think I'm anywhere near 50 posts

I'm going to drop it down to 10 posts rather than 50

Blimey Oxhands - 50 posts is nowt. Just get on with the chatting about something like batteries or linelocs and you'll have them by tonight ;)

It's a lot for me. I was planning on just adding bland "empty" replies in threads just so I can sell stuff on here. I joined Aug 2015 and pretty regularly browse the forum, mostly the classifieds and have bought a few things. My last post was my 10th.... So at that rate I would have been able to sell stuff by around 2023 :)

i don't think its a lot, & it will be a deterrent for a certain class of people just joining the forum for financial gain would it not?
Maybe but on the other hand you'd have people just posting anything to get their post count up to the 50 mark.

Don't know, what happened to BPL?
These days, usually has c30-40 out of the first 50 'recent posts' are for sale/wanted posts.
Interesting stuff gets pushed down the page quite quickly, so less conversations going on as people don't bother to trawl through it.

BPL have long promised to swap the Gear Swap page out of the Recent Posts threads.....but I suspect they get a ton of traffic from sales and wants ads, so won't...

Bit of a double-edged sword I guess if you run a forum; personally I value forums more for contributions above sales....

I don't understand the traffic argument - if traffic is generated via bargain hunters, then surely it'll be the same amount of traffic for the website as a whole, wherever the sale ads are shown?
