Stupid question about kit lists

so, how many people review what they took on a trip with a mind to trimming it next time or do people just take the stuff regardless next time anyway 'just in case' etc?

Good practice if you're trying to lose some weight off the pack

Thats a really interesting insight into someone elses' way of coping Enzo.

I find not thinking about kit, or trips helps me manage better, when there's not much prospect of getting away...

Couldn't you at least get out for a muck about in a local park , to let off some steam ?

Got out for most of hangers way today. Whole thing was 8 inches under mud, loved it. I'm no fun to be around if I'm stuck indoors so good for everyone!
And yes, I'm probably not much fun outside either!

Oh, Glad you (and they) had some respite, sure yr not all grumps, all the time :rolleyeses:

Outside can help for sure :)

Sadly, mud doesn't constitute so much of a novelty, for some of us...

Hope you had yr tall wellies on though. :D

My brother in law just came back from NZ hiking, his idea of hiking food is canned soup. On the plus side after a decade doing all the trails I'd love to do he's discovered camping mats. Its difficult to mock someone with so many more trails under his feet, but I manage ;)
Tenuous link to topic, but a link all the same!

Lucy Walker, the first woman to climb the Matterhorn (1871), did so on a diet of Madeira cake and Champagne, carried on her back, wearing hooped skirts and bloomers.

Maximum Respect.

Unsure if her kit list has survived.

I never weigh my packs, the only list I have is old kit/weight against new kit/weight
which is roughly 2kg lighter than old kit at present.
After last trip I now weigh and list all the items I have brought back/not used including consumable
to make sure I don’t bring those items again. Last trip I brought back 400g :/
I don’t add consumable weight to my journey, but if I can re-supply
then I will carry less water/food and purchase on route.

Showing the way

Taking a 'summit bunnet' is enough of a bother..

Approve the champagne part though.

I can totally see the logic of this, I might even give it a go..:geek:

But, conditions found, are so variable on every trip, that it can only really contribute to better educated guessing.

I know some folks feel a sense of achievement walking into a resupply town only on tank vapours, for instance, but that's too narrow a margin of risk imo.

Or is that the 'you pack your fears' phenomenon coming into play?

Reminds me of the ginger rogers quote about doing everything Fred did but backwards and in high heals.

Or to quoth the ex Canadian Prime minister, I forget her name..

"In order to be thought half as good, women have to do things twice as well...
Thankfully, this isn't too hard to acheive"

Ah ..... There's my coat..:geek:

Oh, Edited to spare anyone fealing too fragile of noggin, to do it themselves... It's HEELS :banghead: H. N. Y. :angelic:
