To be used to boil water only - up to 600ml in one go needed for dehydrated meal.

Prefer an efficient / fast boiling setup where cone supports mug.

Compact is key so needs to split to fit in mug (mug rather than pot).

Ideally mug will fit a 100g gas canister and nested smaller mug (not at same time).

Would be perfect if someone has a Stormin' system as in the video here lying round.

    Thank you :)

Have you looked at speedster stoves?

Yes thank you, from what I can see the windscreens don't nest in the mug which I need (compactness more important than weight to fit everything in bike packing bags).

They can fit if they are cut down to match the width of your pot.

Thank you, useful to know. Cones seem a more elegant solution, but will bear in mind if I can't find one.

Do you have the mug yet?
Have you considered making your own?

Yes, have a Lixada mug but happy to buy another more suitable one and move this one on.

After reading the thread on making cones, I quickly came to the conclusion it was above my skill level!

A Toaks 750ml pot with a silicon band used with a Speedster burner will work well with a cone sized to fit completely in the pot. If you can find someone willing to make you a cone, I can supply the dimensions of ours.

The Speedster windscreens do fold flat so at least are fairly compact
There is another option you could consider, the Flat Cat Gear Snow Leopard system, they are designed to roll up and fit in mugs. They are a single piece, but don't cover the full height of the mug. In practice this means they are likely to be marginally less efficient than a full height cone. I tried a 2-piece cone but personally didn't like the fiddly assembly so prefer the one piece (but I choose to carry the cone separately from the pot anyway).

This looks a great set, thank you. I'll get practicing my convincing skills!

Here's a Toaks 650 light with both a homemade fugly full Ti cone and a homemade cut down Speedster-style screen. The Speedster screen is less efficient but a lot faster to deploy and a lot more compact (fits inside or on top).

If I was to make another cone for this pot, I'd definitely go with a lower Sidewinder style with a silicone band (and use a better hole punch so I don't mangle it).

Thank you William and Balagan, very very helpful.

It's now clear a one piece sidewinder cone that fits in the pot, with band is the way to go :)

The cone in my case isn't a Sidewinder, which fits in the pot horizontally, but rather it fits vertically.

Thank you for clarification - I meant a one piece, lower cone with band - not sure if these have a specific name?

In the days when they made them as a standard order, I think Trail Designs called them ULC, short for Ultralight Compact, I think. I think TD will still do custom orders but only if you've bought from them before and elsewhere on here somebody mentions that they're not currently supplying to the UK.

Just reread the OP, it won't fit a gas canister afaik ?
  18. Balagan

Are you sure? A 500ml should fit a small 100 gr canister on its own.

    WilliamC Thru Hiker

Good point. A 100g canister should fit in the Toaks 750 but not if you have the cone inside the pot too.

I'll check just now, been a while since I last looked at it so you could be right ?

EDIT: sorry I was wrong on all counts, it's only a 400ml Alpkit pot sp no chance og getting a gas canister in :(

They were shipping to the UK at the end of last year; of course that could have changed but worth checking if interested

Nope. I guess anyone in the UK wanting one will have to use a reshipper.

Thats a pity - mine was in December and it was a bespoke (cone only) order discussed directly with Rand. Looks like I only just got the order in time!
