I see that the guardian has called for a red meat tax...

Meanwhile another sort of meat is being arranged for February. Well more of a mixed donner with garlic sauce and chilli TBH...

Oh and some coleslaw, I always have coleslaw...

There is a remote chance that @Imperial Dave may come out of hibernation in mid to late February to greet us all at the Llantony Priory (in fishy whales), for a (not so) windy meet. A few coffin dodgers having beer and slim potential for a walk over the weekend will be on the cards.

The more the merrier, but you’ll have to subscribe to this site to view the ‘Windy Thread’ in ‘off topic’ to join in. Please come along, share your experiences with a few others.

I hope this is Ok with admin

    Sing, Lofty.

(I should add, that this remark is just continuing the AHHM idiom, and is in no way connected with the height, or lack of, of any participant in the thread... just sayin)

You say The Guardian has called for a tax on red meat. I think you may mean an international research team led by Oxford University who point out the health and climate change impacts.

Yes that’s exactly what I meant... I just mis-spelled it (on account of not reading the article).

You do know this thread has nothing to do with meat, despite the word being used in the title?

Oh come on, you must have met this sort before @Stuart ?

Who take great delight, pride even, in displaying their own ignorance, and belligerence?

And then try to gather a group of cronies, to cheer them on?

It's a bit sad, yes, but meanwhile, you've probably got a life, to be getting on with :)

No, really, this is about a meat in whales.... err, I mean a meet in Wales.

    Blimey, it’s a tough crowd...

Just about to take delivery of our first 6 sheep that will go in the freezer next year. Along with 4 more pigs in the spring, we'll be pretty well self sufficient what with the venison I put in the freezer now and then :D

I think we should all bring some meat and have a barbecue. I shall bring sausage.

Whales' meat is surely not allowed in the UK?

I'd like to explain my post about the red meat tax research referred to in the very first line of this thread.

I assumed that you @Fossilbluff were poking fun at this idea. It was the way you phrased it, the reference to The Guardian (often used as a shorthand for hippy/green "rightonness") and the full stops trailing at the end of the sentence. Maybe this isn't what you meant, apologies if this wasn't your meaning. The impact of meat production on the climate and on our health has been well known for some time. I'm really worried about what we're doing to the climate and how this will affect us all which makes me a bit trigger happy on forums like this.

I'm not trying to restart a discussion which already has been aired on another, now removed, thread. But if someone makes a throwaway reference to it I feel it's only fair to be able to respond.

Make sure your barbecue is off the ground.

There is a paradox whereby denying the damage we are doing is cool while stating the damage is to be a party pooper and a bore. But this party is heading rapidly to a place where no one wants to be.

The paradox is exemplified by the way virtue is now negative, viz “virtue signalling” whereas its opposite, which is what? Perhaps selfishness, foolishness? These are, by implication, to be encouraged.

What kind of madness is this? Practically, morally, scientifically and as part of a community bequeathing some kind of hell to those who follow.

I know it was only a throw away comment, but it’s a familiar echo.
