Autumn 6 day kit list

You'll probably find as I have the pack when your back gets sweaty won't sit in the small of your back the same due to the lack of lumbar pad.

It feels like an integral part of pack design for heavier loads that has been stripped away.

Its all very well manufactures making packs for 6 kilos (or what ever) base weights but a pack is never that on trail. A kilo of fuel, 2 kilos of water and 4 or 5 kgs of food and 6 kgs becomes 14kgs rather rapidly.

Its obviously better than the 20kg plus I used to lump around but I do wonder if the pack it's self is a rabbit hole I need to re access..

I nearly bought a exped lightning as this is one of a few that has a good size lumbar pad this year off tintin, but got a good deal on an exos instead. I'm wondering if this was a mistake.. 🤔

@TinTin how do you find the carry difference between the osprey and exped?

I'm not rubbishing the osprey as all the other features were great.I just found I'm constantly adjusting the hip belt to try and get the pack to sit where it should.

In my experience of the Exos, and looking at your current carry weight, you'll be fine if you're not doing a big water carry. If you can sneak another kg or two off the carry weight, it'll be dreamy.

I bought an Exos for my son recently and he said he almost forgot he had it on. I guess with 10kg

The Exos is a keeper. I found it very comfortable with approx 13kg & of course even more so as the food went down. No issues with lack of lumbar pad or slippage even when wearing a shell. As I have the L/XL there's some good height to it at my back setting so the top tensioners work really well & like my old Lowe it's easy to pull it in tight for a close carry (with a cooler back) or move it more onto the hips.
Hip belt pocket zips I found a bit awkward but getting the hang of them.

I've found that the Exos and Levity packs work very well without lumbar pads. The back system gives good contact across the back and around the waist. No doubt this depends on how well the pack fits and suits your body shape, plus how you have the straps adjusted.
If you need more lumbar support, you can stuff something down the gap between the mesh and the pack.

All the kit functioned well except the new powerbank. Due to coming out early for the storm I had a little food not used. Never used the spare sleep baselayer as never took off the daytime layer. List under spare clothes! I think my main top was dryer on the back due to the Exos. No problem with one pair of socks & shreddies for the week. Nor the short mat. Hasn't expected any issue from past experience. The only wasted carry was the Bluetooth shutter/grip for my phone. On longer trips I normally have it on airplane mode (& monochrome). It was too much of a faff to enable Bluetooth & reconnect for my snaps. The shutter will only be used for overnighters & general use.

The powerbank has been returned. Trickle mode & fast charge was intermittent. I was able to charge my phone at regular speed & then charge watch & headtorch from phone.

I always carry a sleeping top, a Rohan Ultra Silver LS, weighs 79g but like you i don't often wear it now for sleeping. Theres has been a few occasions when I've got soaked and the relief of putting on a clean dry top on in camp has persuaded me to stick with it.
