Bespoke ultralight - delays / terrible communicatrions

I made a post earlier about a quilt maker in Europe that did not answer mails and had long delays.

    [Short recap from earlier post]
I sent him a second mail asking about my order, and again no replies. So I send a mail from another mail asking about hammock gear and I get an answer within a day.

So I send my third mail asking why the quilt is delayed and if he can not give me a delivery date I need to get a refund so I can have a quilt ready for my upcoming hike. So now he answers that he has been sick for weeks and he is backed up and no info on my quilt or if it will be ready in time.

So I demand a refund. No response.

I wait a few days and send him a new mail with my payment info and ask again for a refund. Again, no response.

So now I have to go via paypal and hope this refund issue will be resolved.

Tip: Don't place orders with Bespoke Ultralight if you are not willing to wait 5+ months for a quilt, or ever getting one at all.

PS: I put an order in for a quilt at Gramexpert with a custom zipper and I told them I was in a little bit of a hurry to get a quilt ready for next month and they custom made it (full zipper) and sent it out in less then 6 hours!

    Yeah, that’s not acceptable.

I looked at their site. No names, physical address, phone number or visible e mail address.

    All red flags IMHO.

I know someone outside of this forum who’s waiting on a quilt too.

If it helps, I contacted him last week via this forum about a quilt. He said:

'I'm running a longer turnaround at the moment of about five weeks as I'm suffering from carpel tunnel after getting ill over Xmas'

But I agree it's not acceptable to keep his existing customers in the dark.

Its a few minutes work to refund someone, and CT doesn't stop you doing that. No excuse ignoring a refund request. I'd def go to PayPal. That's why I always use them, they take the buyers side, not always fair but if your not an assxxle then its always fair.

Sorry to hear Scotty has recurrent health issues. In my own experience, health issues rapidly lead to money issues. Maybe we're going to need to have a whip round to help him refund a couple of customers until he's able to finish and sell a few quilts and get back on an even keel. I'm in for a tenner.

I spoke to someone a few weeks back who had the same problem. Ordered at start of Jan and had no response to numerous emails. Emailed asking for a refund and had the money back in an hour. Obviously nothing can be done about getting ill but if you'e well enough to post Instagram pictures surely you'e well enough to contact paying customers?

@ThaLuke wasn't it that you asked me if the quilt would be ready for x date, for your trip, and I said that it would be. A few days later you sent an email to me saying that I obviously wouldn't have it ready on time, I refunded you your money and frankly can't be bothered to communicate with you further. I love my job, I love the community and won't allow the the negatively of people such as yourself to drain the life out it.

Sounds like nobody's run off with anyone else's money, and nobody's being forced to wait on an order they're not going to get.

Sounds like someone who has a track record of making good products and providing good customer service has had some bad stuff going on lately and, being only human, it's taking its toll.

So perhaps if the disappointment and recrimination could be replaced by a little bit of kindness...
  16. Just a update on one of scottys quilts. It's in the post, should receive it today. Have seen pictures of it and it looks exactly like the quilt I had in my mind! Hopefully I haven't been too much of pain in the ass lol. I guess it's easy to be the impatient customer, but not so easy to be the guy behind the sewing machine

@Tim VK outdoors Honestly mate you've been awesome and you're exactly the type of guy I love dealing with and makes my business worth doing. I hope my quilt is up to your hopes

"you asked me if the quilt would be ready for x date, for your trip, and I said that it would be" No you did not. I asked you 2 times for a shipping date and you did not answer.
And when you said you were behind on orders, which I can understand, I asked you if it would be ready before the 8th of April and you still did not provide a date.

I have mail history to back this up.

And I can see a pending refund on Paypal dated the 27th of March (It have yet to come through). This is after two mails to you asking for a refund with no answer, so I had to contact Paypal. Only after Paypal contacted you, the refund was made.

At first I did not post your name on forums because I gave you the benefit of the doubt.
People told me to wait at least a week. I waited 2 weeks before posting here.

To clarify, the quilt was a standard baffled large wide quilt with full zipper and sewn footbox.

I don't doubt for a second that you make excellent products and love your job. Personally, if you can't give me a delivery date or ignore my mails I don't want to take chances.
You could potentially hire an assistant to handle mails part time.

PS: My GramXpert quilt came yesterday. They took my custom order, made the quilt in 6 hours, went out of their way to send it on Friday and I had it early Wednesday.

@ThaLuke I answered you about being the quilt ready on the 8th. Telling me I need an assistant because someone on reddit told you is not something I'll be doing.

I was building an entirely new design of quilt using imported fabrics (that I don't stock) and fills, even without my health issues this a bespoke product that takes a while for it to be perfect. For you to purposefully try to destroy my reputation on, reddit and wherever else while purposely avoiding the fact that you had ordered and totally custom unique design, that was getting done in the most considered and accurate way, is a reflection on yourself.

Sorry @Shewie don't mean to drag the forum down into arguing or just generally making it a less fun place to be but he's left threads like this on various forums in an effort to to destroy my business, so if I don't answer it looks like I'm avoiding the questions. Apologies buddy

These recent flaming threads do make me a little uneasy if I'm honest, I do see it from both sides though, having been in similar situations myself I do understand how frustrating it can be.

The issue for me is that they can be very damaging, and unless the accused is active in that particular community then they don't always get chance to defend themselves, not that I'm making excuses for anyone. If emails and phone calls are going unanswered and it's a call for help, it's amazing how a publicly aired beef on social media gets matters resolved, I guess that's just the way things are these days.

My personal experience of cottage industry makers on the whole has been very positive, when you consider most are juggling real life at the same time sometimes there has to be a bit of slack, a lack of comms in this day and age is pretty poor though and a bit of a bug bear for me when these topics come up.

    I hope everyone gets sorted

I totally agree with you @Shewie and feel myself that negative threads invoke a less friendly atmosphere on the boards. I can only apologise as I thought my negative response was necessary in this instance.

I humbly kiss your ultralight feet
