So......I got quite into instant chocolate pudding as a 'shake in a peanut butter jar' dessert when on my PCT sections.

Then latterly Chia porridge in the Sierra last year.

So been playing with a more nutritious no heat version, which works pretty well; might need a little refining...

    1 Tblspn Chia seeds
    1 Tblspn Cocoa powder
    1 Tblspn Muscavado sugar
    2 Tblspn Nido
    50ml water

I've not weighed the ingredients yet...as still playing.

Sets really well (Chia is a natural thickener)....tasted great...

    and looks like :poop:

50ml? A down in one kind of dessert then?

    Sounds lush :)

It's a decent portion, Chia expands...

Some could manage 'down in one'.....

I'd believe anything having seen el with a pork pie

    First pic I could find of one from a few years ago when I made a load of different types;

Chocolate topped, dusted with icing sugar, baked with Chia, Almond, Banana, Pecan, Coconut fat, popped Amaranth, Honey, Pumpkin seeds, Chaga, dried forest fruits.

They went quite hard, Chia seeds are the epoxy resin of baking.

I can't remember if it was chia seeds or hemp seeds.... But what I do remember is .... When I put too many in my super paleo cookies.... It's was like eating a snicker dropped on Durness beach :doctor:

Angel delight with nido & occasionally extras for me.
Not as nutritious, but sometimes the occasionally extra is mixed berry/fruit
    (mostly its brokem biscuit)

How long does it take the chia seeds to absorb the liquid and form the poohding?
  11. edh

    edh Thru Hiker

20+ minutes; the longer the better...

And...after as much 'testing' as I am prepared to do (although I believe my co-conspirator Dr Deliciosa would like me to continue)...I have settled on:

    1 Tblspn Chia seeds
    1 Tblspn Cocoa powder
    1 Tblspn Muscavado sugar
    3 Tblspn Nido
    60ml water

This weighs around 80g for 350ish calories

Now I need to source a suitable mixing/transportation vessel/poohding bowl and I'm done.

    Corrected for errors. :)

Have you tried a touch of cinnamon and vanilla in it?

    No.
    Neither shall I.
A pinch of Aleppo pepper maybe....

Edit: just realised your Vodka suggestion is solely to raise the calorie count; sorry for the assumption...

It wasn't solely to rasie the caloric content. :)

Aleppo pepper could be a winner, lovely sweet undertones would blend well with the tinny soap taste of the Nido.

Your hot :poop:ty frogspawn recipe has legs.

Do you just add the ingredients together and shake then drink?
  21. edh

    edh Thru Hiker

Nope. I've been stirring water in thus far in my home trials (ahem)...
Will try shaking now proportions are sorted.

I leave it to thicken as I want a pudding, not a drink; if drinking I'd add a fair bit more water.

Ahh i see, how long do you let it set?

Angel delight has about 440 calories per pack, A tablespoon of Nido has about 160 calories= 600 calories .

An hour or so; plan is to make it when pitching, then put it in a stream (if handy)....with a rock on top. This worked in the cauldron that was SoCal with instant pudding.

I like how this goes full circle, wondering what Teepees gourmet drops were in the photo above I found their web page and along with their chocolate flavor drops they have a recipe for a chocolate chia pudding in a similar style but lower calorie with no sugar :yuck:

@Teepee are those drops very sweet? I may have to try some but I assume they are just to compliment a drink rather than to use to make one from scratch?

@edh , silly question i know and purely based on my own lazyness, but is it a pain to wash up the next day? I like to leave the chores till the morning usually but some of these seedy things are sticky as hell and a pain to shift.
Part of the reason I like rehydrate in a bag is to avoid washing up or having a coffee tasting of curry the next day.
