Just a heads up for Flickr users. In Feb the new owners will limit free accounts to 1000 images rather than the current 1TB. There will be a pro paid option. Seems like photo bucket all over again so will probably lead to broken links all over the show. Can't link on phone but Google should lead you to the announcement

I have 1,020 photos on Flickr. At $50 per year for pro membership, I'll be deleting 20 photos and looking for a new way to share photos.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems unfair for companies to get people to sign up under one set of conditions and then change the rules. As with Photobucket, some people are going to find that they've wasted a lot of time and effort.

i see both sides. giving 1tb cloud storage without being able to monetise it seems like a dumb business plan but yes a real pain for customers who thought it was an all you can eat service

I agree - Flickr seemed a bit too good to be true. But first Photobucket, now Flickr - it does feel a little like they hope to suck you in and then hit you with a bill and hope it's all too much effort for you to move to an alternative.
In principle, I'm not opposed to paying but I don't need a Pro plan; a cheaper option for amateurs would be appreciated and a guarantee that fees aren't going to be hiked massively a year or two down the line.

Looking at the other cloud options, $50 doesn't sound too bad (unless you know better?).

imgbox is free and seems to work fine for posting photos here via BBCode. Does anyone have any experience with it?

You have to be kidding me. The only reason I had Flickr was for the TB... Urgh!!

For posting images on forums (a?) why not manage your own image folder on the web space that comes with your broadband package. Or buy a domain name and have a bit of cheap webspace somewhere if you don't want to tie yourself in to a broadband provider. If you prepare your images at the size you require at 72 dpi I doubt you'll ever go anywhere near band width limits of the ISP.

I’ll just keep them on my own computer, like always. Never saw the point of photo storage schemes. Nobody should be surprised.
I only use Flickr as a way of posting photos on here, hence I'm reluctant to pay $50 a year.

TBH the way Google grabs my images from my phone annoys the hell out of me. I used to like it when I had to stick a USB cable in and copy them across to my computer. Using one piece of hardware or software shouldn't force you to use another from the same company. [Rant rant rant]

You can post direct here too William. Use the upload file option instead of the insert photo icon

You can
But some of us have slow internet connections. Nothing to be done about that where I live until infrastructure improves.

Upload to the cloud is easy to do automatically or in batches.

I've had a pro account for ages as I signed up way before they offered 1tb free...

Wonder if the costs will go up...

When you compare to the £5 for 36 shots and £8 odd to process not so many years ago, it's still a relatively cheap way to keep memories....

I think the big problem is people do not delete their not great photos, ever. Not every shot is a keeper.

The problem is people are not good judges of their own images. But I guess that is because some pictures have added value that only they can see.
