Homemade inflating bag for air mats

Could the rather gorgeous Eric bring his nice dry shed, and waist high flat surface, next time i'm camping in the rain pleeeze?

Achieving all of the above, inside a tent that has the same footprint as your sleeping pad, requires some fairly ingenuous yoga* moves :)

*U-tube vids coming soon .... (not) :D

Love my bright yellow  schnozzling bag in Summer. But shamefully :cautious: I will sometimes resort to battery assist, or lung power in moister conditions.

I bought myself one of those air tap thingies that come with a large plastic bag. Works fine while sitting on a kingsize bed...but I do wonder about using it in a small tent while often tired/cold/fed up/impatient etc

I've never found inflating a neoair much of a chore, but for the weight of this doodar, it now goes with me every time. Something nice about setting it away and coming back a minute later to find the job done.

Yup, I've got one of them too :)

Pretty effective , but a tad noisy, and takes more like 4 mins for my super deluxe 'Princess and the Pea' Neoair ...

I find it needs a bit of propping up, or supervising, in the corner of the shelter if it's windy.

One set of batteries does at least sixteen sleeps though, and then some.

Plus, it does look like a teeny tiny pedal bin, which amuses me, for some childish reason.

You got me thinking though Bopdude

If it did have suck and blow functionality, you could also use it as a dinky little tent vacuum for all those impossible to evict little bits of crud.. . :)

And can you imagine the cute little hoover bags that would come with it? :D

The reason I asked is that the cheapo one from Maplin does do both but I do like the one linked to :)

EDIT

Plastic bag, two cable ties and a cork with a hole drilled in it....five min job :)

The mind boggles at the speedy fun-time options available with that little lot

The cable-ties are a bit of give-away mind.

But not by turning the batteries back to front though Shirley?
Please don't mess with my 'known knowns' of how stuff works, by telling me that is a thing :eeker:

As far as I remember yes, a DC motor will run backwards if the power is reversed on some motors at least.

Granted, but that's not quite the same, as turning the batteries upside down in a little plastic widgetty thing tho is it? o_O

Perhaps 'On-trail, electronic re-engineering' could constitute a whole n'uther thread ? :rolleyeses:

As could "Nevis makes his own intent'se fun in the country, using a few, easy-to-find, household items" :angelic:

It's exactly that, reverse polarity by turning the batteries around you're reversing the power +/- so the motor runs in reverse, the one in the video is suck and blow though but I'm sure he has a video of changing the batteries / off to look and make sure I'm not talking nonsense :)

Well I might have to hold my hand up and say sorry ??? I'll keep searching but looks like I dreamt it :(

We can all have a dream Bopdude, absolutely no harm in that ... :cat:

And who knows? If you beleeeeve hard enough, maybe it will come true.

Meanwhile, maybe Nevis would appreciate a hand, with 'making real' some of his fantasies  ??

Jaysus it's worrying how the mention of a plastic bag, some cable ties and a cork can descend into fantasy that quick!!! :eeker:

Sorry

I'm currently suffering some 'large, unruly, acreages-of-polythene-that-need-restraining' issues, at work.

These, may well, be seeping into my overall consciousness ... :bag:

The easiest way to deflate a mat is to open the valve when you're lying on it. When you come to pack its nearly empty.

What? You mean you dont use yours as a miniature Leaf Blower to clear the porch of twigs and leaves? Using it to inflate my mat is just an added bonus...

From the pics on Instagram that "naked" polytunnel looks like it'll be a nightmare to sort out, good luck with that.

Hopefully you've not had the continual rain/sleet we've had all day.

Thanks Jim, yes raisin' a posse, for a temporary fix down on Wednesday.

Proper re-skinning will have to wait ti the warmer days of Summer - polythene stretches much tauter then...
It was horribly wet n cold this morning - not so nice for outdoor work - or for newly exposed plants - bit of a shock for them..:coldfeet:

And don't forget the "Quick n dirty roll" of your mat El ; pre the OCD one :bag:

Naturellement ; a tidy porch is a must ; just because we're out on the hill doesn't mean we have to let our high standards of domesticity slip ...

And i challenge you El ; to a lint blowing tourney ; if our paths ever should cross ... :ninja:

But do make sure your batteries are charged ; it could be a looong night :geek:
