Iceland - January 2019

    Not a backpacking trip but might be of interest anyway. Unfortunately we didn’t see the Northern Lights because of the weather. On the other hand, the weather made it more dramatic, especially the rough seas and the fall of snow which made Gullfoss and Thingvellir look amazing. Hope you enjoy the video.

    We’re thinking about having a few days there on the way back from the US in the summer, I think I’d prefer to see it frozen rather than swarming with flying bitey things though.

    Well worth a visit. I’m thinking of doing a round the island tour next year, possibly in September. It is very expensive though. Rule of thumb is to double the UK price of anything.

    Worth getting Paddy Dillon’s “Walking and Trekking in Iceland” (Cicerone). There’s lots of potential treks.

    Highly recommended. But plan 10-15 days. My wife and me did it in a week 3 years ago and you end feeling in a rush everyday. Lots of things to see everywhere!
