Yes I paid attention to the optimisation display. Perhaps the difference is that I only ever attempted to charge my power bank and never directly into the phone as I felt iffy about variable charge going into the precious phone. Plus I was probably reading on it or browsing trek-lite or some other power unfriendly behaviour. So perhaps slower into a power bank? But why would that be?

I don't know about power banks in general but I checked and my anker one is not designed to accept fast charge... And it takes absolute ages and wastes a lot solar power... I was a bit worried about buying a Lenovo phone which doesn't use Qualcom fast charge but a second fast charge technology (whatever that bis called) and I couldn't find any info before ordering but its working...

I understood that even if your power bank has a fast charge input the solar charger will never be a fast charge power output so will never fast charge, whatever is on the other end. My power bank and lead are both fast charge as I wanted that for campsite charging opportunities. Next time I’ll try direct into the phone and see how that works out. One then needs a long enough lead to be able to tuck the phone away in the shadow of the charger rather than the super short one that I have for gram weenie reasons.

I'm no wizz with electronics so this is just experience rather than knowledge: The Yolk doesn't say anything about fast charge technology (e.g. qualcom etc). But my phones have been able to utilise the entire output of the panel anyway unlike my powerbank. On occasions my old phone displayed the "fast charge" notification. Lenovo has no "fast charge" notification but also charges faster than the older 0.5 mains-usb chargers can.
I think its worth carrying a high spec 3 foot charging cable - sockets can be quite arkwardly located - and some cables are lighter than others - worth checking... I sometimes read on my phone while its on the solar charger :)
