Anyone up for another Kirk Fell meet on Saturday the 16th of June?
- I wonder whether a new venue might be good?... but whatever.
I'm happy to go with the flow mate
You know the Lakes a million times better than i do, so i'm happy to go with your advice
Definitely up for another Lakes meet this summer. Don't mind which spot, but wouldn't mind Kirk Fell again.
i am in, just sent off the holiday change request for the thursday to tuesday and can cancel anything i don't use.
i wouldn't mind a change of scenery though as it seems i climbed pillar far too many times last year and have spent too much time in wasdale.
kirk fell was brilliant spot though as it has both an excellent view, reasonable access/escape routes and plenty of water but personally i have no particular desire to repeat last years routes and would prefer to try something new.
Coniston area always looks good in @Munro277 photos but i don't think i have ever been into the fells round there.
i like the Langdales and it has accomodation for valley camping/hotels as well, knowing @gixer penchant for hotels every other night... i meant to camp at three tarns/bowfell links a few years back but was coaxed back into the valley by the twinkling lights and temptation of the ODG
if you had not been able to arrange a meet, i was intending to come up the week after anyway and was mulling over a solo trip to either use the eskdale railway and heading east-ish from boot fro 3-4 days, or something involving the helvellyn range then down to brotherswater or kirkstone then on to highstreet, or coniston area and was hoping to get advice on here.
and does this mean you have ordered your Khufu @gixer ? DCF-B?
Probably best to watch the weather and decide nearer the time, weather can vary quite a bit from W to E and in the N.
@suggdozer, are you coming to translate this time?
I may bring my antisocial self to the meet, may even stay awake for part of it and not gas everyone within 20m.
The penny dropped...i forgot about that..
Fancy this. I'll look at trains. Which station is it best to go to?
None of them if it's Kirkfell. Maybe someone could scoop you up at Settle or Oxenholme en-route if you're coming from the south, or Carlisle if from the north.
Or Windemere or Penrith
Aye, you're right, just trying to save him a few £££s
Edinburgh waverley to honister slate mine is less than 4 hours and only 1 train and 2 busses @craige via carlisle or penrith.
Kirk fell is easily accessible from there.
Coniston/langdale can be done in a simlar time via oxenholme/Widermere.
Cheers chaps. I'll have a closer look at my options once a decision is made about location.
Good. As others say, perhaps not Kirk Fell again.
There are nice hotels I hear
Thornthwaite Crag has nice views and plenty of pitches. Bit of a trek for water in June perhaps.
I've not found great pitches there... couple along the wall?? It's a busy spot.
Lots of room at Derry Lodge. ........and the Fife Arms could open for Ed..
Wasn't Lingmell/Great End picked out a couple of years ago as a good spot?
@edh I seem to recall plenty of spots near the wall, but my memory is pretty crap these days.
@Teepee top of Great End is pretty exposed. Fab spot though, and you could always retreat to Sprinkling tarn or Styhead. Mind you, we saw a shredded tent at Sprinkling last year.
I've pitched on both, nice spots...Lingmell and Great End.
I guess decisions will be made later...... of course if it rains Gixer will be on his own; we all know that.
I've never done Lingmell, so I'm for that.
Just back from an Easter outing and have put this on my calendar - assuming nothing (health, weather etc.) "trips me up" ….. fingers crossed .
I'm happy to give you a lift - Bus to Biggar and I'll pick you up there .
That would be amazing thanks! Once I've got time off confirmed I'll message you.
