Lightweight Drinks

So i thought it would be good to have a thread listing peoples lightweight drink solutions. As much as im a coffee freak i do like to have something more interesting than water to quench my thirst.

Ive tried a few

Nunn Hydration tablets

Great bit of kit for putting back the electrolytes when working hard. come in a tube which makes 6 litres total and weighs 57g. I find the flavour is quite weak at the recommended dose but i prefer that to being too strong. I used to use these a lot when cycling and really rate them.

Price - say £5 per tube or 87p per litre

Bolero Sachets

These are my goto drink. They come in tons of flavours and i just love the apple and the mango. They have 2 different sixe options.

1.5l sachet is my preference and each weighs 9g. I get 2l from each sachet as i find it too strong prepared with 1.5l

Price £10.80 for 24 sachets which makes 36l or 27p a litre.

So what do you use

I don't recommend 3d. It will make your shoes catch fire.

I'm not a water fan either Paul, I can't stand the taste of nothing unless I'm really really thirsty, it has to have flavour for me.

I use Nuun or Zero usually, one tablet into my 750ml drink bottle.

I'm also a sucker for cherry Kool Aid, it's not that good for you but it tastes lush

tried the Robinson squashd recently on 2 week trip. it is fine .
on day walks I sometimes take squash or diluted lucozade (the bottles are my chosen drinks container for years - slip into side pockets nicely)

mostly just water.

Anyone tried cold instant coffee? I've seen a few folk in the US just mixing up Kenco 2-in-1 with cold water, giving it a good shake and then necking it.

I like a Starbucks caramel frappuccino but cold Kenco doesn't sound great to me.

Sounds grim. I don't like decent coffee when its cold so can't imagine cold 2in1 being for me.

I'll have a try tonight. :) Nescafe espresso, dark soft sugar, coffee whitener.

Thinking it may be better to add some instant coffee to some chocolate Nesquick? 345 cal/100g plus the coffee and maybe some coconut fat to really boost it up.

Quite surprised how nice it tastes TBH after just swigging some. Easily as good as Starbucks in a can. I could easily handle a couple of these in a day to save the water heating for a coffee. It all dissolved very well and quickly, undoubtedly helped by the emulsifiers in the coffee whitener. I'm now thinking of trying an Aldidl cappuccino, might give it the froth. Like Paul, I'll drink cold coffee if I've left it.

Nice one rich, you've saved me at least 2 brews a day of fuel. Just a hot coffee at night and in the morning.

Definately plus 1 from me for the bolero!! It's possibly the best thing Paul has ever shown me!!

Half a sachet in 750ml bottle is awesome!! I love the pear and the mango!!

I also use the sis (science in sport) go hydro rehydration tablets, cost about a fiver for a tube, 1 tab in a 750ml bottle works well and tastes of orange, iv seen them in the bike accessory bit in just about every tesco's iv been in, also they sometimes sell them for half price.
I normally have one first thing in the morning, does wonders to cure a headache!!

As for the cold coffee, I would be interested to no what the instant just add water hot chocolates would taste like cold!! I wonder if it would be like milkshake!! Anyone tried one?

I used the Robinsons concentrated squash on the TGO Challenge. It worked well and encouraged me to drink more and keep hydrated. I'll always take some concentrated squash from now on.

For the coffee drinkers you should try making a Frappé

Couple of spoon fulls of instant coffee, couple of sugars, close your cup, give it a good shake and you've got a half decent Frappé.
You can also add a spoon full of dehydrated milk.

You won't get the same sort of head on the top of the coffee by shaking it, a mixer i used to make it properly, it's still not bad shaken though

Back to TeePee's question - Chia Seeds in water needs some sugar and lemon (IME). I used it for most runs last Summer.

I picked up a tent load of Nuun cheap on eBay before it became "popular". It's "out of date" but I'm yet to have a problem. I add one to filtered water or anything which isn't quite as clear as I'd like. Makes me forget the original colour and taste of the water.

Just had what i reckon is the best 'just add water' hot chocolate ever.

Swiss Miss - Its really rich and has marshmallow pieces in too. 24g a satchet

I should hope so at £2.50 a drink lol

[edit] Is that pack of 2 sachets or pack of 2 sets of 10 Paul? Hard to tell from page. Found elsewhere in packs of 10.
