Wanted Old climbing rope for Primary school

I'm trying to develop the outdoor learning side of things in my school, I want the kids outside as much as possible and in varying weather types, shelter building and knot tying are fantastic activities for the kids to do but my budget is squeezed, purchasing a few climbing ropes to then chop up doesn't seem like the best expenditure.

I was wondering if anyone could donate an old rope they are retiring? It will not be used for climbing and will be cut into 1-3m lengths so any condition is fine.

Thanks for any help

Maybe try a local outdoor provider as posting a rope would be costly. Climbing rope is a bit thick for shelter building. Some brightly coloured 5mm paracord or similar would be better for little hands and would be cheaper than covering postage costs.

Thanks, I will bear that in mind, also wanted to set up a blindfolded navigation course where the kids have to follow the rope around obstacles. I have contacted a few climbing walls and centres but so far no luck.

Thanks again for your ideas though.

6mm polypropylene would be fine, go somewhere like toolstation as 30m is £4 or 500M is only £44.

for knot practice my canoe coaches, many of whom are also scout leaders swear by sash window rope. it has just the right amount of flexibility and holds a knot really well, i think its made from waxed jute or hemp.
i always use ratchet straps to secure my kayak but they all manage to get tied down just as tightly with a few £ of sash cord. its also 6mm and is £3-4 for 10m from any diy/builders place or £22 100M online

Ask your local climbing wall. They'll have lots of old rope used for top roping that they have removed but can still be used for things. I picked some up from my local wall to practice my crevasse rescue techniques and knotwork

Danny,
I've probably got some lying about. Think I have a 40m length which is a bit furry.
