Pack News - a thread for new pack talk

Thats why many of us reject the packs with too many 'features' such as many of the 'mainstream' packs available.

I have a package sitting on the table...I think its the Golite pack...the OH thinks its my son's bday present...I need to smuggle this upstairs...gear addiction...my secret shame :sorry:
But I need to look after myself and lightning the load will help.

I made a basic frame/'stiffening device' for my Golite packs - helps lots with weight transfer and 'barreling'.
Pics below show construction - a couple of garden canes cut to size and a bit off a platy hose. NB. the garden canes need to fit  - quite narrow, warm the tube a bit to help stretch. Fitted into the bladder pocket inside back.

Good to know that works

The golite looks nice, I missed out on another one which had a bigger hipbelt and no lid and looked a bit better/more user friendly.
The only gripe I have atm is the drawstring that closes the top sleeve which is a pita to close, very stiff/tight. I could do with one lower down as well. I need to fill it with stuff to see how it works best and how it carries weight.

I assumed you'd got one of the 'frameless' Golites (Jam/Pinnacle) ???
If it's got a lid then it will probably have a frame (Pursuit/Quest/Odyssey) ??
Both have draw strings on main compartment - no bother if it's got a lid, but on the Jam et al it's a nonsense IMHO - I've converted mine to a dry bag closure - not difficult

@Taz38 That's a design I'm not familiar with - but if there is a bladder pocket then my mod. should work. One way to find out :) - and it won't break the bank .

A light weight winter pack but It doesnt say the weight.
Im guessing .....900g ish.

Im looking at 35 - 40L bags(winter in the mountains/summer overnighters) at the moment and i just cant make my mind up to what is best for me. A frameless lightweight bag or heavier bag with frame but more comfortable to carry.

Im interested in finding the right pack at this weight so ive been looking around to find the weight and an aussie site has the weight at 1.5kg. That cant be right can it? especially when you look at the hip belt. But then again why dont they advertise the weight? Strange as its light weight running firm.

Just heard back from inov8 .
The pack is 990g

At that weight, what exactly is this newly-designed 35L frameless(?), no-padded-hipbelt pack supposed to be be bringing to the trekking-lite party? I'm missing something somewhere...perhaps specialist features of interest to trail-runners?

As someone who's currently looking at options for downsizing from my 1100g 53L fully-specced pack to a 40L pack in the 600g-700g range, I'm puzzled by a new 35L pack which is only 110g lighter than my old-school, 50% larger, framed/belted model.
