20190622_205610.jpg 20190622_213535.jpg 20190622_205556.jpg What is about pyramid type tents and shelters?

Not specifically lightweight thread but............. please delete if this sort of heavy talk isnt allowed on here.

Right..................maybe abit sad but lol............................

What is it that so satisfying about setting up a one of these things?

I find there is something so simplistic and relatively quick about setting these things up.... maybe even magical when you just pop in and fit the pole then within 2 seconds that pile of canvas/nylon/sil nylon etc etc that was a heap of fabric on floor just instantly turns into a seemingly well spaced shelter along with good angles to disperse the rain.

So far i own a 4m bell tent (canvas and bother about putting it away if i have no choice when packing up if it wet or damp) and a hex peak that's pyramid shaped..... oh nearly forgot the cheapo go one.

I took my kids camping on a site/social club that we frequent often ish at the weekend and my youngest said she wanted to sleep in the camper van with her sis and the only 2p tent iv got is a cheapy teepee from go outdoors, i got it on an offer a few years back.... mainly as a play tent for the garden for my kids or as a back up tent... so..... i set it up and its pretty bloody nice in there:)
anyway my after seeing it my little girl asked if she could stay in there with me haha knew she would.... i told my mate to watch this.... and then set it up lol
i let my teenager who doesnt like camping stay in the van and i stay in the awning, sometimes accompanied by my youngest.

The teepee is about 3m x 3m and tall enough for me to stand up in in the middle (yes i am short) lol but i had plenty of room.

not enough vents tho, it got too warm but it was humid this weekend....
during the day with the sun out its pretty unbearable in there and it weighs a tonne.... well about 4.7 kg
and no loops to hang stuff from inside (lantern would of been handy) haha... alright for chucking out the boot for a quick pitch like.

So iv started looking at lighter and better designed options as i like the principle and design, iv seen a few on ali express but i wouldnt mind
for a throw out the boot jobby....... and i only need something about the same size.

Do any of you use anything about 3m x 3m size lighter and better designed?

Im interested.....

The knot 8 sided mids are lite for the money. They do a 2.8 X 2.8 and about 2 high one at 870g ISH.
I use the slightly smaller one for couple/ family camping. With 7 zing it! guys it's still under 700g and will fit all four of us. 2 or 4 p inners available cheaply in mesh or solid fabric.

Luxe Octopeak would be worth a look, though its not cheap. About 3kg if you pitch it with connected walking poles - half that if you only use the fly. 3m across, 2m high at the apex. Doors front and back, so ventilation good. Certainly sleeps four, and we manage to fit all five of us in with a bit of a squeeze. You say you've already got a Hex Peak, so you're familiar with the make.

+1 for 8 sided knot. I have the 2.5m one and it's 63 quid well spent. Pole set at 1.7m in pic, 700g ish with guys.

This is the medium with 4 season inner.
IMG_20171230_101633.jpg large with custom one man inner.
The 4p inners are 8' square. £46. Just under a kg. WellWbe using the medium and solid inner for 2 weeks in scotScotand the lakes next month. 1.7kg and ~£120 for a four p tent, plus pole OBS. They have a cheap sturdy adjustable one linked from the tarp be page. It's ok, bad weather or car camping the 500g are worth it to me, but a cut down naturehike one is under 300.
