Not done a pole before, so forgive me if I've cocked it up! Seemed like a sensible way to come to a consensus.

    Hi Enzo,

As I suspected I now don't have free weekends before June! Which is why I put off giving free dates before now.

As regards routes, The SDW is treeless and down ridge particularly to the east - good views but beware of sunstroke.
The Monarch's Way is mainly through woodland.
Both routes are essentially dry - no water to be had apart from the Amberley taps.
If you like water follow the Arun!
Nature reserves at Grafham Down (flower/butterflies - free) and Arundel (waterfowl - fee)
There is an official wild camp site at High Tittern on the SDW at Amberley - I'd forgotten about it. The park authorities restored it about 3 years ago after travellers had trashed it - I don't know its current state.
The Bridge PH at Amberley usually has live Jazz Sunday lunchtimes - good while waiting for a train & the beers alright too.

I've used or visited most of the formal campsites in the vicinity of Amberley if you want any opinions.

I'll be around for about 10 days if you need any further help.

I am very flexible so I can do both dates if that helps.

No reason not to do a second later in the year if there is demand from those who can't make it this time?

There's more taps than that Stube and you literally walk past one pub and very close (couple of hundred metres) from another two, but one of those is near a tap anyway. You also pass through a couple of farms that are very used to necky walkers asking for water.

More of a concern is camping unless enzo has a tame farmer on board. Stealth camping is ok for one or two shelters but lots of areas will be difficult to pitch in unobtrusively.

Is this an out of the blue thing or have I missed a thread? What section is planned for, just an overnighter?

Not out the blue, free council 'wild camping' site at amberley is the plan

Nice and easy for the train too.

The car park at Amberley station is free and huge, catering for Amberley museum, so parking is no problem.

I was referring to the two taps in the immediate vicinity of Amberley Rail station hence convenient for the High Tittern site (unless they have restored the tap there). Bridge PH to left of main entrance, and in a field 100 yds W of rail line on revised SDW route (Installed by local rotary clubs).

Well I may have to rescind my tick for the 28, I've come down with a near fatal dose of man flue. Made easier with my wife being in the States for the weekend and a pair of under 8s to keep fed and watered... So basically we are at 3 votes each date

Has there been an alternative date made?

I'm now back to full strength  so assuming this weekend is too short notice shall we get a date sorted?
Do we go soon or leave it till after the tgo so more people can get involved?

    I'm easy either way.

I would imagine that we will have the same problem in reverse that we do with a northern or SW meet; it'll be a long way for some people to come and whilst we do have some lovely scenery here it's hardly breathtaking

Agreed, but it's pretty enough, and it doesn't involve trudging through, and then camping in 6" of bog. It's the crowds that I find tedious.
    So, lets simplify things.

Vote for the 12th or 19th may.
    Makes no difference to me.
Or the following weekend, but I'll be in gran sasso, make your own minds up as to whether that's a positive or not!

50/50 for the 19th so don't wait for me to decide. If i can make it I may have to head down at the crack of dawn on the Saturday.

Should know in the next few days if I have a visitor that weekend... :(
