Where we will be - Impromptu meet up thread

Dunno if this is a good idea but I though I'd throw it out there...

I, for one, would like to meet some of you guys but often work and life commitments get in the way of any planned meets. So I though I'd start a thread for any of us to post if we are planning a trip at short notice where we can leave some details and others can decide to join as and when in an informal impromptu manner.

This means no one is let down as we were going anyway. I usually walk alone (and quite enjoy it that way) but if someone joins then new friends could be made and we are pretty well all of a similar mindset regarding our style of wildcamping.

So by way of a starter...

I have a weekend free and am heading to southern Snowdonia after work on Saturday morning (8th Oct). I'm heading for the Aran's. My planned camp spot for saturday is Glasgwm - either near the summit if it's not too windy or near the remains of the logged plantation to the SW for some shelter. Then on Sunday to head over the Aran Ridge before dropping back in to Cwm Cywarch and the car. A short route but a nice quiet area and the weather looks promising - jinxed it now ! :arghh:

If no one is free or fancies it then no problem I'll have the place to myself :angelic:. If anyone does then see you there

Hope others think this might be useful and with any luck we can have a rolling impromptu meet thread were a few of us can get together.

    Great idea Dave

Unfortunately my trips take a bit of forward planning around call-out and home duties but I'll try and hook up one day.

I'd be up for this as I've already booked a weekend pass without the kids... but I'm now stuck waiting for a parcel to arrive Saturday morning (which precludes the very early start required to get to N Wales..) I'll likely heading out to somewhere on the eastern end of the SDW if all goes to plan...

I'm coming over to Snowdonia this weekend, I'm right up for it. Was going to head for the Rhinogs, but the Arans are on the way. :)

Unfortunately, I've come down with a right stinking dose of man-flu and don't want to pass it on. I'll probably do the right thing and stick to plan A, which is to slowly wheeze my way up Diffwys. Hoping for a miraculous recovery tomorrow.. if so, might see you up there.

Well it was a great overnight trip. Kind weather, lovely sunset and sunrise and a silent summit camp.

Not so much of a success as a "meet" though. Next time

    Looks great.

Things didn't go to plan this end, parcel didn't arrive and instead, roofers actually turned up, which is good I suppose.

I've still got a Rhinogs trip as a target..

The Rhinogs are a real gem Davy. A little bit of Scotland in Wales. Very hard going in places, very quiet too with lots of unmarked paths. Looking forward to getting back there. :)

Rhinogs rock. There is a trip report on here somewhere from our 3 day trip in February 2015

I've seen the Rhinogs TR on here, and a few others. Don't think I'll make it this weekend as I'd need to leave Friday night, also I'll have an unruly 6 year old in tow... Probably end up somewhere on the South Downs..

Mole and I will be traversing Exmoor, 25th/26th Oct. East to West, Minehead to Parracombe, wildcamping at an undisclosed location somewhere between.

    Can I come...... ?

But on a more serious note, doubtless eliciting groans and eye rolls, from the 'political correctness gone mad' faction...

How comfortable would folks be with...
Hello the whole of Internet land..
Me, I, obviously lone woman, will be at grid reference 3654 1489 at this time...

    Anyone care to join me...?

It's different for girls, still, sadly..

I can understand why you wouldnt want to advertise your location on the web if you are out alone. I think that comes under sensible rather than gender equality PCGM. It is different for women but if you are comfortable asking for company then i dont see why anyone would have a problem.

Perhaps just a general location and date then the fine details can go to PM's ?

    ^^^ Yes, for us females.

I'd welcome more company on trips. BUT I was never a fast walker - even in my 'youf', now I'm slower than ever…….how would that work with others ??

Not this year mate. Going somewhere warm.....the UK hills in winter. :)

2018 is the next far north winter jaunt for me. TBH, the pain of the last heatwave and running back into civilisation before everything melted is still fresh.

That could be fun, crazy weather isn't doing much for the cold cold, still, cold enough for my first time :)

I have a pass for this forthcoming weekend so I'm watching forecasts before I devise a plan. I'll update any plans later in the week. Getting drowned in a gale has limited appeal :banhappy:

Ditto. This weekends weather prospects in Wales are further complicated by a little low pressure system that looks to be forming in the SW, could be a gamechanger again. Looks a bit 'blizzardy' going by current output.

These get togethers are great. Been partly responsible for holding an annual event for those who post on BPL.
This upcoming weekend will be the 9th year. Great to meet people that you only know online. Eye opening. Have made good friends over the years. So if you are on the fence about these things, GO. I am quite the introvert, and even I have a great time.
