I had a look at the meetup website. The main problem is they totally innundate your inbox, second they were mostly really young and third Dune is a very experienced hiker while those groups tend to people who will walk 7 miles to the pub, not women with a duplex and a pack of fine dogs. She is much more likely to find like minded hikers lurking on a site like this, Id say.

Go for it. Set up a walk when you’re in the uk.

I'm actually British (born and raised) and American with dual citizenship and lived in the US for the last 20 years. Dune Elliot is actually my pen name for my published works and I chose it because it sounded gender-neutral and I write epic fantasy, and I sorta use Dune as a trail name.

Not keen on a "dating" thread either but the impromptu meet one is a bit limited as it stands IMO. For one, weekenders isn't very practical for me (and possibly others??) but I regularly meet people on my alpine trails and on occasions we hike might together for a few days (11 on one occasion) and stay in contact perhaps become friends. A friend I first met in the Pyrenees is joining me and my cousin in a few days here in the Dolimites for a 6 hike...

So maybe a thread were post plans/locations if anyone wants to (loosely, HYOH, no expectations or commitments) connect?

E.g. I'll be back on the Brenta high route for 5 to 7 days (weather permitting) in early September...

I'm really not sure I want to see guys sporting the same tight leggings I wear...something needs to be left to the imagination, and guys just should NEVER wear tight spandex (occasional exception for cycling and sprinters)

On the tourist trail to Breche de Roland - plenty of guys in orange/red troos. Day hikers, indubitably - several weeks grime would not have improved their dandyness :whistling: :D
But very jolly :thumbsup:

I meet more great people when I’m out walking than I do in London. It’s a weird inverse phenomena that is probably explained by an ancient mathematical equation. Or it says something already very well known about London.

And i've definitely received an axe as a birthday present on at least one occasion.

Maybe our partnerships flourished because the 'other person' was susceptible to 'outdoors-ishness' - otherwise we wouldn't even remember them/the incident now :D
