Cumulus Quilt 350

I am quite interested in Cumulus X Lite 200 model with maybe 20 grams overfill. With that Toray outer the whole thing only weighs 360 grams (!) for above the 5 degrees mark. It really looks like they have several options in the 400 gram range and are priced well. I use a bag below about 2-3. May I ask have the users above used an accurate thermometer like a fridge one in your tent or relied on weather forecasts to determine the temps you in which were comfortable? Ta.

Temperature on my Suunto watch hanging from the tent ceiling

I've used my 350 down to about -1˚C, I felt it was just on the edge at this point. I wasn't cold, neither was I toasty warm. For colder nights I have a Cumulus Magic 125 down liner bag that I can slip inside
Thanks kindly. Looking around for Toray Airtastic info and can't really find much except on the German Ultralight site. Might you know anything about it?
Cumulus must be confident in it as at least some of their clothing uses it. I have a Borah gear down jumper in Argon (have leant against trees and shelters carefully seems fine) I wonder if it is similar? That Xlite quilt which I could customise would weigh next to nothing and have 220 grams of fill. Seems amazing.

Sorry no, I don't know much about the material apart from it being pretty thin

I use the temp gauges on a couple of Garmins plus a fridge thermometer and average them. I'm not using the figure as a sales pitch so a degree or so either way isn't going to make much difference. I'm a warm sleeper so the limit temperature rating is about right for me, I can usually deal with a degree or two cooler depending on how I'm feeling.

I imagine it’s a rebranded Membrane 10 or equivalent. Kinda thing you can see the down through and “handle with kid gloves” like a certain ME sleeping bag I saw. ( delicately fondled )

I ordered my 250 quilt in Toray and have Membrane 10 for my Apex quilt project. ( never gonna happen, lol)

It should be here in a couple of weeks to compare.

:)

Thanks. I have a feeling it is more the 7D type thing.

Did the overall weight drop much with the Toray Airtastic from the 490 grams advertised? Didn't know that I could ask for the Toray instead of the Pertex is there a charge for the alteration?Ta.

Alpkit have used Toray fabric on their bags for years, I think both my PD's have it

I managed to pucker the quantum fabric on my 350 quilt on it's first outing, not sure how I did it but it's now got a nice chunk of Tenaciouos tape stuck on it

ive used the new cumulus xlite 300 (daves got it now) which uses the toray airtastic and to me it seems a lot better in feel and durability than the pertex on my quilt 350.
Thanks for the info. looks a super option and postage from Poland is a great price.
Was the Xlite 300 not a good option for you?

Presumably the inner fabric which has a nicer feel to it. Where did you get that info from mate? Seems a bit pricey for budget bags but if you buy tons of it..

I asked for lime green inner and graphite outer on my 250 quilt in Toray Airtastic.

So, Between knowing what it’s gonna feel like and seeing the colour contrast of your lime green bag and bathtub combo, I’m a happy bunny :)

Quite a teaser, cheers gent’s :)

I've got the Xlite 300 packed to use of the TGO. On a test night out it seemed super warm.

I can just remember it from when I bought my PDs. I’m guessing Toray is the brand and Airtastic is the fabric (great name btw, I’m sure I used to mutter that word when getting airborne in the car :))

Toray are a long established quality Japanese fabric mill. Used currently and in past by plenty of outdoor gear makers. Alpkit, Montane, Crane sports (Aldi!), Cumulus and Tundra come to mind immediately.

Our old Pipedreams were Toray fabrics throughout.

The old Montane Atomics were Toray fabric before they switched to the Pertex.

Membrane series by RBTR is a relative new kid on the block . RBTR spec their fabrics, but they are mainly made in Asia by similar mills to Toray.

BTW. Although well priced, l wouldn't say Alpkit were budget quality bags. Their selling model meant they could sell direct cheaper than other brands retail cost.

I tried that Cumulus Xlite - Dave brought it round. Amazing down quality and fabric. Bag a bit tight for my tastes but ok for overnighters/short trips. No3 zip and the way it sewn on at bottom end looked a potential weak point to me.

The Pajak down trousers/knickerbockers I have are made with Airtastic. I like it; it has a nice feel and it's proving to be very down-proof.

Thanks Bob, I notice you have a 150 quilt as well. What are the temps you are comfy using this?

I've the 150, my wife's the 350. I use the 150 in summer and probably down to 8-5C but it depends as much on how I feel, tiredness, etc. I also use it as wrapper to my PHD Minimus for the cooler months or cold snaps like this weekend just gone.
