Had a play with using my traditional fabrics last night. Punched xpac lined with cotton jersey as the inside filter. This pattern is very easy to sew and the fit is great. Mimi G on YouTube provides a pdf pattern and easy to follow walkthrough. Just remember to turn it right side out after sewing the top and bottom

Replaced the laces on my shoes from thin hard to 2.5mil shock cord. As these are barefoot shoes, tight lacing and flexibility is the key.

2 months ago I ordered a pair of Primus Trail FGs. I have a long foot with relatively narrow heel & midfoot, which means I have to lace up tight to prevent foot slippage inside the shoe. This lead to laces being very long, catching and ripping a loop. Thankfully Vivo replaced my shoes for free. To be fair, I wasn’t happy about the lace material to begin with as it’s thin and non-elastic, so it presses my toe tendons when extending (see photo). Looser laces meant slipping. I replaced the laces with 2.5mil shock cord (elastic) and cord locks. This allows the cord slightly stretch when extending the forefoot and having even tighter lacing (see comparison in video). I tightened the shock cord tighter than original laces and they were comfortable whereas original was digging into my skin (see photo). My hack also allows to shorten the lace so that it won’t flop around when walking/running.

If you've low, thing and fitting shoes, especially around the midfoot/metatarsals, I think the elasticity is vital. I'll probably be fitting my other shoes with shock cord as well.

I’ll be interested to hear if they slip under use when covering mileage.

I have cordlocks on my Vivo Ultras but they’re only used in camp so don’t get stressed too much.

I start with cordlocks, then when I'm happy where I want it I just knot the shock cord. But then I have my trailrunners pretty loose.

That works for the lowland trails I do mostly, useful to be able to tighten if you get to trickier terrain though.

I kept the stock laces on the mudclaw 300 I use in the winter, no way they'd stay on with shockcord and the clay round me!

A bit OT but today I built a 26" MTB out of bits from my spare parts stash.
A bead blasted Merlin Malt-1 with Mainly NOS Shimano XT, Kona project-2's, handbuilt deore/Mavic wheels.

Off for a test ride now than it will be boxed up and sent to a friend who finds he now has 'enhanced personal leisure potential'* due to coronavirus.

I forgot your diamond back is probably of around the same vintage. You are on disc brakes though aren't you?

I don't like the look of the high rise stem and have a couple of alternatives but I don't think he will like the bum up-heads down position the bike otherwise command's

Nahhhhhhhh not on the DB, i bought it in 1994
Discs brakes weren't really mainstream then, V-brakes were the new thing :D:D:D:D:D

Just got back from a 5mi walk on the SWCP and no slipping, they were almost too good, I need to loosen up them a bit for the next time, but this is how I had them.
