Looks very Trailstary, and crap over a hammock :)

Expected on AE but not from another cottage manufacturer?

Looks maybe it's a hexagon rather than a pentagon like the Trailstar, so should be better over a hammock. Enormous though, not sure it's an improvement.

Your optimal tarp shape for a hammock is basically a flat A frame, with end doors for extra protection in winter if required.

It looks like it works, kind of, but there’s a lot going on and unnecessary fabric here and there.

IMHO if you’re going hammocking with top and under quilts and all the other clobber that goes with it, then just take a hammock tarp, if it’s a ground trip then take a Trailstar.
If you wanted a shelter to cover both bases a flat tarp would be a lot more versatile.

I’m sure they have their reasons for the design but I’m not on FB so haven’t read up on it.

I wonder if the quoted weight of 930g includes the pole set. A customer says: "Complete with all and futprint, weight with packing 1400 GM., seams quality."

A 2p version probably wouldn't weigh all that much more, and would be a more reasonable shared mass. Trekking poles attached to the ends of that floating pole would make a pretty sturdy setup I reckon.

Has anyone here got or seen a newer Naturehike tent? I have seen a few of the older models and the 'silnylon' did not behave or look like silnylon. It had a almost PU feel to the outside and grainy inside. It also behaved more like washed tyvek, not springy but semi stiff.

Yes @Rog Tallbloke I'm satisfied it's 930g with poles - your quoted 1400g review included the postal packaging in the weight I think.

There isn't a VIK 2 from what I can see. Naturehike do plently of 2P freestanders which would qualify, but I was interested in this VIK 1 purely as a fair weather freestanding option (although I note your trekking pole suggestion) - as a counterpart to my Lanshan 1 Pro (700g hybrid mid). I wouldn't use it in 'proper' conditions/terrain. I'm still looking at a freestanding alternative to my Hexpeak for that, and the Scarp 1 is looking favourite. The only freestander I currently own is my somewhat vintage (but totally usable) TN Voyager but that's 2.5kg all in.

Some Aeon Li chatter, update coming on 21/06 apparently

It will be minor tweaks similar to the Notch update.
  • Zipper instead of velcro/hook on the vestibule door (confirmed already), this will make the tent slightly heavier and pack slightly larger
  • End to end improvements in stitching, cutting, taping and bonding
  • Improvements to venting (confirmed)

It’s similarish to the cirriform and trekkertent stealth, which are both considered very good in wind (within the ultralight, 3 season hiking world!)

The front and back appear to be more vulnerable to wind that either the stealth or cirriform - but those ends would be no more exposed than the walls of a mid, so maybe it isn’t a big concern?

Hybrid, so maybe condensation is more of a concern in the conditions of the British isles.
