Double walled alcohol stove. I bought a Evernew knockoff a few weeks ago and it was awful, circa 2 minutes until it even bloomed and poor performance after that, I thought I would have a go at making one. The MYOG version blooms in 19 seconds, more efficient and boils 500ml water much much faster.

Now I know it works, I will probably make a cleaner, tidier version.

From my experience, the knock-offs are just missing wick between the walls. Seems a silly over-sight by them as it wouldn't take much to have included it.

Ditto.

The real Evernew ones give a huge "output' once going.
I used them for several years when we were a family of 4 camping togther and using pots of 1.5 and 2 ltrs.
I wouldn't dream of using one on a smaller pot - waste of fuel and grossly inefficient - but you'll struggle/wait ages to get larger pots boiling on anything less than the Evernew.
Horses for courses.

I wouldn't bother with the cheap knock off ones that have no wick - silly idea.

Yeh, I’ve had another knockoff a while back but this one mentioned a ‘wick’ in the listing which has now been removed. Something for the gear cupboard hah.

Depending where you got it you might be able to send it back.
I got one off amazon few years back, think I was on a prime trail at the time. Wrote back to them saying it took 2mins or so to be able to get to a working state which made it useless for it's purpose, they took it back no problem, even sent someone to the house to collect if I mind right.
I then got the evernew one for around £25, I use it for winter day hikes to make tea, very inefficient on fuel but am on a day hike.

Amazon have always been pretty decent when it comes to returns. This one was from eBay and I was refunded but told to keep stove as it would cost more to return. I think I paid £12 for it initially.

Neat job Dave. Looks sweet as. I have the similar one from Dutch but due to the constantly dry conditions and the bloody monster flame that comes out of it I've been hesitant to use it. Is the flame from this higher than the one you'd get from the other metho stoves?
I would drip a couple of mls on the string wicky thing wrapped around the body of the stove.

Kind of a prototype pack, before completing some custom requests. Also to time and test myself after being unwell. A few tweaks needed but overall happy. Around 4 hours to complete , I had made the straps the evening before though ;)

30Ltr (as pictures, additional 7ltr in collar with 4 rolls) frameless, beltless, medium- long back length. No weight as scales packed away with the rest of the kitchen.

See if you can spot the farmer on his quad bike after he’d questioned me about my intentions on camping there.

I’m thinking about adding some detachable pitchlock corners to the rear to free up some real estate. :)

Looking good!! What is the pitching hight in the photo?

Making progress on the rain jacket..
Concealed pockets done

Pockets are half mesh and half main fabric. Plan is to have the possibility to turn it jn its own pocket and let it dry when needed.

Super fabric to work with!

Question anyone have any experience with seam taping? Do you tape when done or now a major part is done and have easier access?

@gamemaster84 poles are 125cm. Less on the A-frame. Might try single pole with a pole jack which is how I set up my Trailstar if I’m using my inner.

is that what you are thinking?

I wanted to try different heights, even took the pole jack but between..
“Gerrof moy land” and “Daddy.. I can’t feel my feet”...
I had to cut it short :frown:

:p:pThanks yes.

A while back I was thinking of making a monk or a cricket tarp. Couldn't decide and made a trailstar eventually :) But would still want a smaller and lighter tarp.

I'd like to try and make one myself but there are so many kinds of guides... Could you tell me how you made this one? Or point me to a good guide?

I didn’t follow a guide. It’s pretty simple though tbh. Make the top half of a red bull can stove and slide it inside the outer larger can. You will have to size the outer can accordingly. Once your happy with the fit you will need to JB weld them together or use another high heat glue.

Then add the wick to the inside walls of the inner and outer sections, add wick to the lower part of the larger can be your done.
