As a committed and somewhat picky coffee drinker, I much prefer the taste and texture of paper/cloth filtered coffee these days, at home and out. It's less oily and bitter, and leaves no oily residue on my cups and pot.
I find the paper cone holders a bit faffy and slow for more than a days use, and the coffee is often a bit too cool when you brew on a windy hill.
The Aeropress is my favourite. It's unbeatable for ease of cleaning, quality of brew and gives a reliable great coffee in any temp. I use it all the time at home and also out.
It's basically a tough polycarbonate syringe that you fill with coffee and water, and then push the lot through a 50mm paper filter disc by pushing down after 2-5 mins.
Yeah, it's a bit heavy compared to others but nothing gets close for ease of use and consistency of a decent coffee out in the hills.
The shorter travel version fits in my 900ml pots and I cut a hole in a spare mug lid to take the base.
