Pillow on sleeping Mat

Another we question here, are there any tricks to stop your pillow slipping around on your sleeping mat? At the moment I chop and change between an Alpkit dozer (car camping) Alpkit Numo or the Xped I bought from Ed on here. I like to use my Nemo Fillo for a pillow. On all but the Dozer my wee heed is all over the place with it slipping around.

Cheers

Put it inside your top/mid layer and then the mat inside the thermal layer, so it's like a sandwich.

Silicone works to a degree too.

It might not work for you as I think your mats are thicker than mine, but I've found that using a thicker pillow and moving it off the mat works for me.

I slip mine inside my buff and use the elastic thingy that came with my EE quilt for clipping the sides underneath you (I don't like using it for its intended purpose) to hold it all in place on my mat.

(Not checked the BPL link so sorry if repeating what that says)

Interesting BPL thread - its a science ...

I used to stuff something under topend of neoair but I just went back to my antigravity gear pillow and attached that with loops and toggles to top end of my new STS. That way, the pillow will be fixed either on the mat or flipped over and stay fixed above the mat. Loops and toggles attached with Tyvek tape which sticks pretty well to almost any surface.

pillow, buff and length of elastic with sewn on cord lock....

-inflate pillow in buff
-thread elastic through buff
-put pillow in hood and thread elastic around sleeping mat
-tighten using cord lock

Doesnt budge, much better nights sleep. Dont tell walking compatriot for fear of derision....

I just put my Exped UL pillow in a buff and it doesn't seem to move much using a Thermarest XLite. Might try the shock cord trick for extra security though.

My pack is my pillow. On it's back, in the bathtub groundsheet, butted to the mat.

It doesn't move in the night, and being a side sleeper, it's just the right height.

I put my pillow on my polycro groundsheet, it doesn't move much (but neither do I when asleep).

I use a short mat, so this means more mat for my legs.

When I remember I slide a fleece mid layer over the pillow and mat together and it all stays put.

My pack is my pillow. There are many like it but this one is mine. My pillow is my best friend. It is my life....

Dunno why I thought of that...

The Exped has a nice couple of tabs with holes........perhaps that's what they're for :angelic:

Won't come as much of a surprise to many here, but i'm an odd one :whistling:

I like to have my arm under my pillow so the usual straps and elastic cord doesn't last long for me.

Like Teepee, i usually faff around getting my rucksack in just the right position at the top of my mat

This thread has gave me ideas for my kam snap tool to earn its outlay.

I sometimes use one of these..

Think @Teepee does too. I bought a few in store in winter for £3.50. I also have a better quality one, bought in the late 80's

Now i need to look at snapping a pillow on, could be a goer if any of my pillows has a useable seam for Kam snaps.

FYI my foil mat has silicone stripes on it. Neoairs leave my arms on the floor, like most mats.

If you're really smart add a couple of Zpacks hooks to the mat & then clip the pillow off them......the pillow can't go anywhere.:angelic:

Easy to glue on a couple of patches with a loop sewed on to improvise the same thing.
I tried that, but I didn't like that I couldn't then move the pillow for different sleeping positions.
