Do men have egos? Where??? :whistling:
Maybe there's a little narciss in all of us?
images(6).jpg

But we're hijacking this thread - perhaps we need dedicated to the philosophy of sewing (aka men in skirts)?

Affirmative on all fronts

Maybe the time has finally come, for the

"How 'airy is your undercarriage? "

Thread...

Subtitled, 'getting away, with a bit of a skirt on the trail '

You start Tom... I'm in enough trouble as it is, with the powers that be... :angelic:

My rainskirt has been marked as waiting for pickup for ages and today got marked shipping cancelled. Not sure if I'll actually get it now. :(

okay this is very uncool coming up. I like the idea of a skirt but what I don't get is how everyone seems happy to have wet feet. I like to keep my feet dry if poss (which a skirt can't do) as when my foot skin gets wet and therefore soft and pruney I'm prone to blisters. I've read so many posts from people who prefer wet feet to goretex liners, but I just don't get it. Why don't you get blisters with wet feet?

I don't think anyone likes having wet feet, but if you don't have a waterproof membrane in your footwear they can have a good chance of drying out.

After 3 days in wet gortex lined boots in the lakes in 2015 I lost all feeling in my big toe for 8 months... I am not keen to repeat that.

I am using sealskinz waterproof socks and quick drying inov8 shoes and I always have dry feet at the end of the day although the socks can get a bit niffy.

That's a shame. I think I ordered mine about the same time and mine also waited over a week to be collected but apparently has now been handed over to the airline for shipping. Fingers crossed

Its not uncool. or if it is i'm very much in the uncool club too Clare.

Yes my feet get sore too, if i walk very far with wet feet, i guess it's different skin type.

I generally only use a rain-skirt on summer trips to cope mainly with sudden afternoon downpours, not to walk in all day, as they do somewhat restrict the view of your feet, and don't offer whole leg protection - but if its relatively warm you can hitch up your trews, or wear a skirt, or shorts underneath, depending on conditions. Wet calves dry out quickly, its your thigh muscles that really suffer if they get cold.

(and for this same reason i have three quarter leg length, waterproofs for cycling too)

For all day winter conditions, and at work i will wear wp trousers, as they are warmer, but heavier, and are certainly more faff to get on and off.

Back to the feet - i still wear unlined trail shoes for Scottish type conditions, but also take a pair of waterproof socks which are pretty comfy, to avoid the dreaded 'prune foot' and associated discomfort.

This seems to work better than a goretex liner which can a) break down pretty quickly anyhow b) make your feet too hot on the warmer days and c) means that your shoes take longer to dry out once they have got wet inside.

Please don't tell anyone else on here Clare, but i have also been known to do multiday trips wearing walking wellies (Nokian) - Yes I know !! - and there you were thinking you were uncool :bag:

After a period of a month of getting stuff from Ali in just over a week I haven't had anything in a month, Christmas rush? My skirt says in the UK but who knows.
Re gortex I just bought some inov8 roc lite 325, ( cheaper than 305) could have got gortex 286 for same price but the liners inevitably leak sooner or later, presumably sooner in a lighter boot so I figured I'd rather use a wpb sock that's easier to switch out, and you get a highly breathable boot for when it's not raining

Dunno.

In October, 3 of us did 10 days in Scotland. All of us had unlined trail shoes with feet wet through every day bar a rest one hiding from the storm in a bunkhouse.
Feet get cold, and pruned. But look after them each night and they were ok. The weather/terrain/stream n river levels were such, that IMO, it would have been impossible to stay dry even with gtx boots (unless wearing yetis too maybe).

It was only when we got tarmac I was feeling vulnerable underfoot but luckily that was the last couple of miles on the last day. On TGOs, I have had forefoot blisters, but that was manageable with Compeed and tape.

This time of year I wear MVP socks over my normal ones unless it's frozen solid with no snow. ( Then, unlined shoes are fine with warm socks ).

Mine also apparently arrived today, but annoyingly the postman neglected to put it through my letterbox, ring the bell or leave a card so I have no idea where he has left it.....

this is despite me being in the house, having a functioning door bell and there is a prominent "do not leave with neighbors, return to depot" RM sticker on the letterbox. Postie really is a complete pillock.

2 weeks after originally getting a shipped notification mine seems to finally be on its way, under a different tracking number. The original shipment seems to have never been picked up by the shipping company.

My down balaclava is coming up to two months now so I'll see how good purchase protection is.

Mine, ordered from Backcountry Store, has yet to arrive. The seller informs me that the consignment "got lost", and he is sending another. We shall see.

I suspect that when demand exceeds supply, they keep selling them and delay until they can make/access some more.
