I've had mine for years. I only use it for some Dartmoor trips or local lowland stuff. Backpacking I take a blizzard stake. That's pretty rubbish for digging with too, but useful as a stake.

Seen loads broken by the DofE youngster, one supervisor carries a metal gardening trowel for them to use.

We issue the coghlans trowels to our Explorers on camps. Not aware any broken for the 8 years I've been helping. Maybe most don't actually use them!
I can see they aren't too strong though. Maybe as a gardener, I've abused enough tools in my time to be aware to their limits.
