I saw the alpkit's earlier from the email, ordered some to see what they are like. Also tempted by the light windproof they do now

Well mine arrived today, fitted them on my 280's and they seem pretty good. Nice and light, fit on the shoe is good but a little tight just above the ankle, I will probably add in a small bit of material to widen them in time.

I picked up a pair of montane pro gaiters on sale here the other day, they seem to be for boots but have a short leg so thought I'd try them out with trainers this week.

https://dirtygirlgaiters.com/ very popular among runners and thru hikers.
Some shoes are even tailored to fit them (Altra)

EDIT: I don't see how trainers and waterproof stuff mix as trainers will always be wet. But that's just me being cynical ;)

Touche. I am of the same opinion. My trail runners are breathable Salomon and my gaiters are Dirty Girls to keep out dirt and rocks...and they are fabulous for that.

I used extremities light waterproof gaiters with roclite 325, the mid version of the 305 trainer this. Winter. I think if your up to your knees walking through bog they have advantages over dirty girls, which I'm a fan of and will move back to as soon as it stops bloxxy raining! The 325 have fully gusseted tongues so the combination is pretty good at keeping the mud out.

In single figure temperatures(°C) , for me, waterproof short gaiters are fine with unlined trail shoes. I've worn them with inov8s for nearly a decade. I've also worn Dirty Girls the last 3 years. In cooler times I prefer WPB.
Models I've used. 1: Trekmates Grasmere -really designed for boots- so a bit baggy, and heavy. But primarily 2: Integral Designs (later Rab) Event shorty gaiters. Very light.not very waterproof, but not hot or bulky.
Very pleased to get another pair from Andre's generous offer.

I wanted to like the Dirty Girl type but after a couple of days of bog trotting I find the little velcro tabs either fall off or just don't stick together anymore.

I've gone back to my Rab Screes which have a loop of silicone shockcord under the foot

Yes. Dirty girls definitelty stay attached better where your heel doesn't repeatedly sink into soft wet ground!

When planning for a trip a few weeks ago I was looking for my Alpkit Kantju gaiters. Could I find them... No. As I had found the Kantju's to work well, especially with Altra LP 3.5's I ordered another pair from Alpkit. They arrived in good time and well packaged. I wore them this weekend in the Lakes and noticed when I got back to the car a hole in one. When I got home and rinsed them out I found 2 more holes and was a little miffed.

These new ones had done less than 20 miles where as the old ones had done hundreds and the only thing that wore out was the tension cord that runs underneath.

Thankfully I have seen past my own nose and found my old, original ones now.
