Which insulated jacket?

For around twelve months (I think) I've been using a Berghaus Hypertherm Vapourlite and a Montane Fireball Verso. I have a Rab Continuum but have not had the need to use it for ages.

I know that the two jackets are heavier and bulkier together but I find them a good combo.

The Berghaus is with me all year around and then add in the Verso for cooler trips.

It would appear that Rab is updating the Xenon. UOG has the new womens version in stock, though strangely it doesn't appear on the Rab website, as far as I can tell. The insulation is still 60g/m² but they've switched to something called Stratus, about which I can find nothing. The material has switched to 38g/m² Atmos, which they've been using in some of their down jackets. This seems to have brought the weight back down to close to the original Xenon jacket, which is maybe why they've dropped the X in the jackets name.
@Balagan, the chest pocket is still internal.
I've had a Xenon X for a while now and I've learnt to live with the internal pocket. It doesn't really make that much of a difference but I still prefer external. I hope the new insulation and fabric mean either a bit more warmth or more breathability. Good to see the weight go down again though it certainly wasn't a deal breaker on the X.

@Shewie @Enzo and anyone else who has/had one.
Mountain Raid Jacket....
How you getting on with them?
The wife is chipping in for one for Yule.
I'm figuring on getting one for home use and on the hills as a base/stop jacket and to be part of my sleep system (thinking of cutting my old apex quilt in half instead of using the omm raid pants and foot pod)
I'm pretty happy with my dynafit pants for legwear at night/early mornings, but could be tempted with the whole system for 2/3 season fastpacking.

I've not much experience with primaloft other than I had the rab xenon a couple of years back... It was great in dry cold... Rubbish when wet.
I understand that the OMM is a heavier weight primaloft..
Cheers

I really rate my xenon, I have the vest (which they no longer make) as well as the jacket. It might be rubbish when wet but it's still better than down. Mine doesn't have an internal pocket.

Only worn mine for a couple of hours in Cham bud, no hill time yet

I like primaloft, had quite a few pieces now, my old Fireball smock took some beating for warmth/packability, not so keen on the later versions though.

Got the Raid in a L if you want to try it for size, it’s quite generous on me

What's the story with Primaloft. Is it meant to be superior to Apex? I seem to be seeing the opposite. Better packabilty possibly but quicker loss of shape/loft? My Climalite (Apex 67) after packing and wearing at least 30 -35 times-but not slept in, has won me over on Apex. But happy to learn.:) Have an Atom SL with primaloft that seems Ok.

Thought the Atom SL was coreloft insulation like the old Argus jackets.
I'm with you on the apex vs primaloft..... For now :whistling:

Yes, you are spot on old son. :thumbsup:Just checked -40gm Coreloft. Don't know why I thought it was Primaloft?
My question for all and sundry remains tho' what's the John Dory?
Again happy to learn more. Was basing thoughts on reading from BPL one vs the other.

You're right! I think primaloft is supposed to be warmer in the beginning, but is a lot more fragile to compression and wear over time. So that's why it seems like most people prefer apex or other continuous insulation because of it's superior lifespan and warmth (once the primaloft is worn down).
