A shoe whinge

This is a generic whinge about trying to find shoes that fit, are supportive, comfortable and don't break the bank when you're a woman with wide size 8 - 9 feet. It is no fun. Arrgh!

I could probably go for guys shoes but I like girly colours so that causes a conflict for me.

And breathe.

Spendy seems where my life is at right now. But my feet are worth getting good footware for so spend I will.

Do kind of wonder if the shoe maker who's brandname is exactly the same as my surname might be convinced into giving me free shoes. :D
Probably not but it is fun to speculate.

Have you tried Keen shoes?

Some Saloman models might be wide like the Exit Lows, but I've never found the more technical shoes/boots to be so.

HAven't tried Keen. I've a Cotswold 20 minutes walk from here so I might just go there tomorrow and try everything on.

Considering I'm finding most shoes very constricting in up front baggy almost sounds wonderful.:)

After my other half once stating words to the effect of 'pretty much most womens size 8s boots/trainers fit me out of the box', I bought her some Terrocs size8. Of course, they didn't fit! - Not enough toe room for her central 2 toes. Come to think of it, one particular Keen model didn't fit either (they were quite girly - not the usual Keen clodhoppers)

My hubby has short (for his height) and wide feet - he struggles to get comfortable shoes - loves his Keens :).

Salomon have the oddest fit out of any shoe company i've bought from.

I find shoes like the Speedcross 3's to be fairly narrow, yet my XT Taurus's wide enough at the toe to be sloppy even with thick socks.
Their sizing is also weird, i've got some Salomon's that are 42 and fit great and others that are 43 2/3's and fit great.

They're also weird on build quality.
I've got easily 1000km on my XA3D Ultra2's they're dog eared but i still wear em, my XA Pro 3D Ultra's heel started disintegrating within the first 50km though.

So if you go for Salomon it's worth trying on a few pairs.

Altra's have wider toe box so toes can spread like nature designed them to.
New Balance have variety of widths.
Minimus Trail has grippy lugs that are wide enough to prevent mud build up.
I accept I will need to replace often; I can live with that cos' so comfy. Got a larger pair for hiking/manky conditions and smaller pair for general walking/cleaner conditions.
Tried the New Balance Road shoe but my orthotic won't fit, but a new Road model imminent. ( so Keswick New Balance shop told me yesterday).
Sweatshop, Newcastle got plenty of sizes in stock re Trail Shoe.
Don't wear boots any more cos' can't tolerate the high, 'drop'. Opens up the front of foot above the ankle so that tendon is always over stretched. ( for me, anyway.)

Keens Koven look quite good, and not a bad price.

Got KEEN boots on recommendation , great out of the box and onto the hill and width is great too as I have wide feet but unfortunately top cleat poped off while lacing and waterproof / breathability issues after warranty expired:mad: now looking at new boots two years in, my old Lowa's were eight years old and still waterproof and intact before I bought the Keens.

Just bought a pair of Karrimor Tempo 3 Trail runners on sale, had to go size 9 but they're quite comfortable (considering I'm no longer used to shoes with arch support). Being Karrimor I do not expect to get a long like out of them but they'll be good for the local woodland paths.

Still looking for a shoe that I'd be happy wearing on the hills.

I hate having big feet. :(
