BABESIOSIS is a recent addition in the UK from tick-borne encephalitis (TBE)
The Ticks have just upped their game... :hungover:
Be aware and do what you feel you need to to stay safe... Be it deet, pemerthrin, picaridin etc.

Thanks for posting, read about this a few days ago. Must admit that I get complacent about the threat that ticks can cause because after 50yrs of walking and a lot of it in shorts I've never encountered one, maybe I'm just lucky. I must look more into prevention if the threat is becoming more common and the outcome more serious than before.

I read it in the news last week. Gross buggers just keep getting worse...

Can anyone find a proper up to date map of the UK tick distribution? I can only find stuff from 2015 from the PHE. And other maps seem to have no granularity.

    Aren't they pretty much everywhere?

I've had them everywhere I've been in the UK .
    Moor, mountain, coast and country.
100s. On a regular basis. I must taste nice

I'm not bothered. It's been a fact of my outdoor life since the 80s.
Just being aware, and knowing to remove them safely is all you can do.
Don't let fear rule, it spoils your life. Have perspective. It's far riskier walking in urban areas or driving anywhere.

President Trump has declared that it's not going to happen on his watch so he's going to ban TicToc

Really? Ive only encountered them in Exmoor and Torridon. Never in the Southeast. Maybe ive been lucky.

Its not even about risk, they gross me out to no end . Plus the thought that they will latch on my scalp or my back where I cannot see them grosses me to no end.

I think anywhere deer lay up is a possible tick area. And there are a lot more deer about than people think.

    Sorry it grosses you out.

If it helps, I've never had one on my scalp.

Had to extract one from top of a mates hairy arse crack once . He was freaking out and just couldn't get to it.:wideyed:

I wonder if Trump will have any to help him extract TikTok? I suppose yesmen [sic] could loosely be described as ticks? Or something like that. He has extracted one or two of them I think, although much more experienced with gadflies.

Perhaps Fauci and Birks have developed a nano hypo of disinfectant for especially for him to trial the efficacy of application on a cohort of his local tick population before scaling up to defeat TikTok?

They're in the southeast too, never had one myself, but my dog used to pick up a few here in East Kent.

Dunno if the buffalo they're about to reintroduce just down the road will carry them, but I guess deer, foxes, wild boar, etc are more common.
