Am I reading this right, do people actually use their stoves inside the inner of their tent?
Midges or not, & we get loads here in the central west & even more up in Donegal, it still seems madness to me.

No.
I've never used a stove of any type inside the inner of my shelter - and it's why I prefer a decent sized porch/vestibule on all my shelters.

When did this come in, should we all be doing it now? It’s just that I prefer my face ‘unmelted’.
I may have read it wrong & the incident with the pocket rocket happen in the vestibule, but the hiding from the midges made me think it was in the inner as they love the vestibules here & there's no hiding from them there.
Which was why the question mark, instead of my usually presumptuous attitude. :angelic:

If it's midgie I cook away from my shelter if possible and keep all the zips closed ....... or they will go shelter in the porch.

I eat outside too - walking around to try to lessen their impact.
When it's "time for bed" I try to lure the midges some way away, then run for the tent, slip into the porch close zip, boots off and post myself like a letter thru' the smallest gap possible in the inner tent zip.
Then follows the 40 mins or so killing all the wee beasties that still managed to get in.
And remind myself not to go camping in July and August again ..........:banghead:

1, Light Tiger coil, waft the smoke around.
2, Set up stove just outside the tent door but within reach from inside the tent.
3, Enjoy food/tea whilst sitting crossed legged in your tent, away from the midgies.

When I was young I could sit for hours in the lotus position. Now I can't even get into the lotus position and even sitting crossed legged is get to be a problem.

Yes, pacing around outside the tent eating my meal to keep one step ahead of the midge cloud is an all-too-familiar experience

I just put citronella oil on my inner - clears the little blighters out in no time at all. To save weight I decant the little glass bottles the pharmacies sel it in into an old optrex bottle.
