Have you tried sitting the canister in a shallow container of water?Despite pre-warming the canister and putting in a cozy before leaving home, I reached the limit of a canister-mounted stove. This needed some persuasion (hand warming and gentle shaking) to produce sufficient heat to boil water. I guess I need to get a remote stove with pre-heat tube for day walks (although in general I prefer alcohol stoves, when I'm not camping I don't have enough patience).

Not tried that, though there wasn't much water to hand. Surprised how much (temporary) impact of swirling the canister had versus warming in my hands (which hurt...)Have you tried sitting the canister in a shallow container of water?
I've seen claims on backpackinglight.com of functioning canister top stoves at -30°F using this method with an isobutane/propane mix. Warmer water ( fresh urine?) will obviously help more.
I've sometimes "enlivened" a cold sluggish canister by popping it (after a wipeing) into the partially boiled water in my pan.
