You can *normally* find a relatively tussock free area to lie on, but often not enough to keep them out of the whole tent.
And as long as the underlying ground is not too lumpy, a bit of heather and tallish grass provides quite a nice soft surface to sleep on. This was one of the worst last year, but comfortable enough in the tent: 'springy' inside with a NeoAir to even things out!)

Hello, everyone, I might be missing out or too many to read this thread page to find one...

I from the UK.

I was looking for a groundsheet for the Durston X-Mid 2 solid, I love this tent, the only issue is when knee into the tent. also sometimes can feel wet underlay but not through inside. That reason i decided to find and buy one for this.

I have been looking at the website - Durston has its groundsheet but it doesn't cover a veritable area, only covers inside. I wish they did make it a full-cover veritable area.

only I found a good (ripstop website) also i saw someone do this and did this project which i like and want to do same. https://genxbackpacker.com/xmid-footprint-quest/

ripstop they recommend this material

https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collections/hyperd/products/1-6-oz-hyperd-pu4000 (I prefer this)

which they recommend silypol bottom ground and silynol for top where inside. I were plan to use this DIY groundsheet fit for a Durston tent groundsheet. (the alternative option for this project can used as a Tarp silypol top / silyno under for my bivvy Roben Mountain Bivvy)

yet shipping and tax total about 70 or more pounds to the United Kingdom as it is absurdly price to become expensive (if I lived in the USA I would've done this as half price) - Might worth spend on it.

sorry if i was off the trail, so back to the topic

first question is:
what do you recommend for groundsheet for durston X-Mid 2p with cover verisable?

second question is
I would love buy X-Dome 2P, i wonder size same as X-Mid 2p?

if it is does so one groundsheet for both.

thank you

I think the footprint for the Alpkit Tarpstar should work (https://alpkit.com/products/tarpstar-1-and-2-footprint?variant=39933789274217) for £39.99.

The fly footprint for the X-Mid 2P is 210 x 254 cm and the pitch size for the Alpkit is 250cm x 200cm, so the footprint for this should be just a little smaller than the fly size of the xmid 2P, which should work well for size. The one downside is that poles will be resting on the flysheet, but it's designed to withstand that.

I've not got one of these for myself yet, so can't comment based upon experience, but I intend to, as I would only want a footprint that covered vestibules.

So got movement out of customs my shelter is being delivered in a few days but on RM page I can’t find a fee to pay ? Anyone in uk who’s bought from Durston rather than Kavisio had a shelter delivered with no custom charges ?
I bought mine last year via the Durston website. Sat in customs for a week and was then delivered with just a sticker on the box saying customs needed to be paid; no slip/card telling me how much or how to pay.

I decided to ignore the sticker and haven't heard anything since...(although now I've posted this I'm bound to be caught!)

Needed some pole tips to use my Pacer poles with this new Xmid 2 Pro
Copied Rob off here ,Trek-lites idea first to make the table tennis ball caps 6g
Then found these and got them printed, then fitted a cord loop so they stay on your pole tip, while putting shelter up and taking down again. 7g each

I got a 4-pack of cheapies off eBay a while back and they are a nice balance between soft enough to not make annoying sounds and firm enough to last quite a while. Guess that’s what was in stock that day…

I have several sets of those rubber tips but choose to make the table tennis ball adaptors because I felt they were less likely to stress the tent apexes - applying pressure over a wider area and more similar in size to a trekking pole handle. I suspect my caution was unfounded, however... At least my adaptors are lighter!
Its yours that you showed that ive made and plan to try first, the others i just saw on a program at work

I don’t think these stress the apex much, probably less than tip up. The advantage of rubber is they grip plus you can use them as tip protectors on tarmac. Dual use :angelic: . I had them anyway so it was an easy win. TBH whatever works for you. Also the weight difference is trivial even if you use the heavier Leki ones which I’m sure work just as well. I’ve used handle up as well with some cord threaded though the grosgrain holding the grommet. A bit fiddly but it works.

On xmid 1 and 2 I agree you cud use pacers handle up but not the best. In pro2 at least the handle will rub on the DCF at the bottom of the handle so needs to be point up on pro2 at least,I think

Always like dual use!

I have an X-Mid 1 solid not the Pro. That is the context of my comments.

Updates on X-Mid Ordering to UK
I now have the X-Mids fly and inners available on DurstonGear.com (direct from us) on this page:

That has a few implications:
1) People can now buy the solid and/or mesh inners to mix 'n match

2) The tents are less expensive to the UK. For example, previously an X-Mid 1 was $240 USD with free shipping in the USA but shipping to the UK is about $30 for a total of about $280 USD. The pricing here is less ($230) because the shipping to the USA is priced separately. The USA shipping is $14 so it is a similar total cost to the USA but now international buyers get cheaper international shipping of $19, so the new total price is $259 or $21 less (plus saving tax on this). The downside is that this will arrive with Royal Mail which is not as fast as FedEx from Kaviso and doesn't give the option to pre-pay the tax.

3) If you want a complete tent you can order the fly and inner separately to get them under the $150 threshold for avoiding the 12% import tax. That might save $30-$40 but with paying shipping twice and probably a second $10 handling fee, I'm not sure it really works out less.

4) Royal Mail is less on the ball for the import tax, so there may be a higher chance it is not charged if they simply don't bother.

The duty loophole might still work, as fly & inner bought together pushes the price over the duty threshold. Technically the duty free applies to tents manufactured in Canada, but so far most duty refund applications have been successful for Pro models.

Just went through the motions of ordering separate XMid1 solid fly and inner from durstongear.com, with the stakes added to the inner order, to keep below the £135 duty threshold. Shipping is £16 per package. Once I include VAT the total comes to £308.40.

This compares with £322.56 for ordering through kaviso with duty/taxes paid up front (at current exchange rates)

Hardly seems worth the bother of ordering separately and having to deal with paying the VAT, and any other hidden charges or complications that I may have missed.

Please correct me if I have made an error, or have missed something. The whole subject appears to be a minefield!
