Hahaha...wus da word for it...?...inferiority complex ;-).
I wish I had met a woman with goals or just the will to do something. That wasn't the case and it was boooooooring.

So, how to make a (this) forum more attractive for women? To make hiking a little special for my girls I bought lw-dresses (120 g each) for them to wear on the mountain. I also bought a few pink garments. Now they don't care about the color, they just wanna look like hikers.
Trek-lite merchandise? "Trek-lite - forum for trekking women".
Come on, women here :). Brainstorm a little. I work really hard at home with my girls to make sure they know that girls can do the same as boys, there are no sports just for men, women are just as awesome as men (and show them vids of women doing cool stuff of whatever liking at the moment). Why this overrepresentation of men?

Luisifer, in talking to the females on Trek-lite you are talking to the converted.

My daughter would have been very puzzled if I'd given her a dress to go hiking, and she wouldn't be seen dead in pink on the hill or anywhere else.

So how do you attract 'new' female members ??……….I don't know….. wish I did. Even the guys on here whose female partners do hike - the female half does not get involved on here……..presumably by choice. I've met 2 female partners of Trek-lite members - both lovely ladies - I'd be delighted if they joined in (more)………..maybe they don't want to………..maybe ????

Mole - what does your partner think about this ??

To speak for my wife: Bozena loves the walking and camping, but she has no interest in the gear. There are other topics on here that I'm sure she would be interested in reading and discussing, but she avoids the Internet like the plague.

My wife is very adventurous, sometimes she'll even stay in a 3* hotel...

but I think it's stating the bleedin' obvious that the lack of enthusiasm for wild camping is due to the lack of `facilities'.

Re forums in general. Not speaking 'for' her as she verified what I knew anyway before I wrote this - she has no interest in chatting online about an interest. She'd rather be 'doing' or speaking about it face to face. She prefers books or magazines for reference or from talking to friends etc. She doesn't want to be an expert & happy to learn from her mistakes. The fun's in the doing. She reads over my shoulder sometimes (not just here) & is baffled why I waste my time on forums like this as she doesn't see me learning anything or changing the way I do things. I agree with her & still get drawn back like a moth to the flame.

She also doesn't do facebook or any other social media. Ebay for selling is virtually her only online activity.

Like Cathy said about her daughter, i've seen my Mrs in a dress maybe 10 times in the last 16 years, never seen her in pink.

Problem is just like us blokes all women are different, there's no "fit's all" thing you can do to bring women to the forum, even if there was it's not something a bloke is likely to think up.

I'm guessing most here arrived either from search engines or being pointed in this direction from other members, seems to work good as we've got a decent bunch here.
Given time the membership will grow, but we're a pretty gear centric sort of group (if most posts are anything to go by) and that just doesn't interest everyone.

Does it matter what gender is on here as long as they can enjoy it and perhaps add to the quality.
Tad sad u see it as a waste of time Ross because I enjoy many of the posts u submit. Be it humour,advice or general banter.

I am on a face book group where its more 50 50 all the girls meet up big groups, and go off up a mountain somewhere, the men wouldnt be seen dead together as a group, interesting, the girls give us plently of warning tho, they own the mountain when they are on it :) :woot:

Interestingly I've seen your name come up plenty times in posts of facebook/youtube blokes slobbing about in hammocks not far from their cars. Seems some of these male types hang out together.

yes a few are more sociable, but most are solo from what i have seen. I only ever camp solo always have always will.

I think the 'women in groups' is a very pertinent point.

I and Lady Grey are both happy to Trek solo, I cannot speak for Fuff Kitten and Quixoticgeek - tho' they seem to be 'soloists' too. Whilst I enjoy company (sometimes) when out walking/hiking I prefer small (mixed) groups. The thought of trekking in a large group of other women would have me running in the opposite direction in horror.

Many women have been inculcated by society to think that they are 'at risk' being out in wild places on their own. It takes courage to break those taboos. I despair of the way our culture (and other women :() denigrate womens abilities/strengths.
