Down booties....opinions?

So I have a pair of super-toasty Rab Expeditions - 240g

But looking for something lighter yet still warm...I don't need an outer boot and would prefer not to import FFriends and their ilk....

Protagonists....
  1. Montane Fireball Footie - 93g look a bit on the not so warm side?
  2. Exped down boot - 150g
  3. PHD Minimus - 106g (tad pricey)...or PHD Wafer - more £ less g
  4. Aegismax - 75g - cheap buy twice-looking (pure prejudice)
  5. Others?

Any opine? Preferably from users.....(I only say that to stop Gixer :p)

As Tucas Foratata 60g. Not cheap but quality. Love mine.

Cheers; they look nice and warm...and colourful.

I am not sure I would like the elasticated cuff - how tight is it? I have massive calf muscles

I like to be relatively unfettered and always thought a drawcord a better idea for socks?

Last thing (well for now, this is gear after all)....anyone any idea how their supply-chain (sic) is functioning at the moment; I actually want the boots soonish?

Don’t find mine tight. If you measure your ankle, I’m sure Marco would adjust if necessary. As Tucas down is the best quality I’ve seen. Even better than Western Mountaineering. Marco is on the forum so you could message him on availability

Aegismax booties are a bit on the small side, you'd need quite small feet not to need the "large". Apart from that they are fairly well made and warm.

I bought a pair PHD's secondhand, toasty and fine for sleeping in and sitting in the shelter. The elasticated opening is a bit of squeeze to get the foot in but once on they're okay.

I don't use them that much, not sure I'd pay full price for some, I'm usually content with a pair of merino (Alpkit Trekker) bed socks which pack a bit better

Light and warm? 2 oz/pair

I use Heat Holders (118g, £4) , they don't need taking off to get out and water the Heather.

I can't be doing with insulated footwear I can't walk in, or need to take off to get out.

The WM and Wildthings are US orders as far as I can see(?); not really my preference as stated above....

Just an idea....
if you need a pair quickly I'm sure someone will lend you pair.
Then, buy a quality goose down pillow, some Quantum or similar and make a pair to your own design.

Sorry for the slight turn in this thread, but think you cud get away wearing down socks inside the montane prisms if you sized up ? I have PhD down socks bought full price 10 yrs ago,but always wanted a better camp boot for mooching about taking night night pictures,or are these warm enough on there own ? ..off out for a camp now so have to see how my signal is.

Valid point from Munro, is it bed socks or something more that is required. For sitting in the inner, my spare walking socks over what I'm wearing and legs in the sleeping bag is adequate.
For trips outdoors, bothys etc made need something with a more substantial sole. Thats why I got the Prisms with tyvek protectors; more versatile. The protectors keep them clean enough to still wear in my bag.

@Munro277 - i just wear my walking socks inside my Prism boots, they've been warm enough for me.
