    Afternoon everyone :)

Has anyone used EE's service for adding extra down to their quilt after they have purchased and used it? My Revelation 20f is somewhat a bit chilly and a bit of extra down might sort it. The extra amount added will be 97grms. The cost is $50 plus $25 for return postage.

I've emailed them to ask also how then intend to describe it on the return customs form as i don't want to get stung again with fees.

    K:)

EE say that they will only put the value of the overfill charge ($50) on the customs form for return shipping so as not to get stung for import duties/vat.
Think I might risk sending mine off for a bit of stuffin' as it will be no use over the winter with what's in it now

Has it always been cool for a 20f quilt? I’ve looked at them a few times.

They increased the fill and prices couple of years ago. I have a 2017 and that's a bit cooler then the current ones.

I have done it. After much hesitation for the same reasons as you bring up. I am very happy I did it, worked without any problems whatsoever and I had someone in EE as contact during the whole process who updated me as it had arrived etc. They actually filled a bit more than the said before, but did not charge for that. You could say that it came back heavier than expected, but having had cold nights for 2 weeks before, my view is that it came back warmer than I had paid for.

I really recommend you do it if you find it too cold now, it is such a difference, I have never a again had a cold night for its intended 3-season use. With a cold quilt also the days was affected thinking while walking that I will freeze tonight, now I know I will sleep warm.

It is actually quite nice of them that the shipping cost is the same regardless if you are in US or anywhere else in the world, it is signalling that they are trying to support also the more remote customers.

I did not have problems with vat/duties but I am not in UK. However, I asked if it had been a problem for other international customers that they had been charged vat/dutiesfor the whole value of the quilt and they answered that they had never herd of anyone having that problem.

To be honest I hadn't really noticed until I started doing much more cold wintery camping, then I realised that even at about 5 degrees it was a bit chilly never mind when it got below freezing even when wearing several base layers!! Normally I'm renown for sleeping warm.

That's all great to hear, think I'll be sending it of this week then :)

Of course will do. Just emailed them back now asking what the next step is, think they email a form and shipping label over to me.

I can add that even though it is easy to logically understand where they must have opened it, I have never been able to identify any traces of the work they did. Top quality work.

I had EE add two ozs of overstuff when I ordered my 10* quilt back in the US. I'm glad I did but wishing I'd gone with 3oz. If I ever send it back I also want to ask them to add a draft collar as the were just prototyping them as I was leaving the US and didn't want to pay customs and import duties so did without.

I've got a 0 deg Enigma with overstuff for an autumn / winter quilt. Glad I did as as I sleep cold these days. I would suggest that you get the overstuff as their down quilts seem to me as a wee bit off with their temp ratings but then everybody's different. For me it's 5-10 degrees off. Mines a 2017.

They increased the fill & pricing in 2018.

Typical :panda:. My thoughts when I bought it were it was fairly good value for money for the weight and temp rating.

    2019:

30% overstuff on all down quilts: We’re moving from our previous 10% overstuff to a 30% overstuff across the board on all our down quilts and sleeping bags. This means all our down products will have 30% more down filling than they technically need for a given temperature rating. The change to 30% overstuff is geared toward minimizing the likelihood of down migration during use.

The change is effective on custom down products purchased on or after January 2nd, 2019. For stock products, we will have most updated to 30% overstuff on January 2nd, 2019 as well, with the remaining few products updated within a couple weeks. All pricing and weights displayed on enlightenedequipment.com will be correct for the amount of down in a given item.

I had the same, as I bought ours in 2017.

However the refill option could turn my 20f into a decent winter quilt and then I could get a lighter summer quilt.

So cost plus customs etc just over a ton. Maybe worth the several weeks of waiting.:cigar:

My quilt was bought 2017 as well. When I go back to the conversation at the time I see that they also say they bumped it to the new rating. In the end I think it more went from 30F to 10F than from 30F to 20F in the old rating:

"The work is done on your quilt! The stuffers ended up adding adding just over 4 ounces of down to your quilt to bump you up to our 2018 20° specs - I quoted you 3 ounces, so that's what I charged you. Please reply to this email once you have the invoice paid, as I do not get automatic notifications when outstanding invoices are paid. Once I know the invoice is paid, I'll get your quilt back out into the mail right away. :)"

I bought mine late in 2018, just before my move to the UK. So I have 2018 fill PLUS 2oz of overstuff. I do like how warm it is though...never been cold with it even down into the mid 20s which is what I expect a 10* quilt to do for me personally (cold sleeper). My 30* synthetic quilt is for 2-3 season use in the UK

Following this thread with interest. I also have a EE Enigma 20 degree bought in 2017 (just washed it for the first time). I've used it down to -7 but wouldn't mind a bit more down. Please let us know how you get on.

Judging from the last email i just received it would appear that the total cost is $50, as they say they cover the cost of return shipping...i won't hold my breathe but that sounds OK to me :)

I have an EE quilt made to my spec by Tim Marshall and his team. Nicest sleeping gear I've ever owned, and great comms and service.

Based on my experience $50 is all you will have to pay apart from shipping to US, that for me was suprisingliy cheap (less than £20) when I choose tracking but not requirering the package to be signed off at arrival at EE. I felt I had to trust EE with my quit anyway. but did not have the same trust in the postal service...

The original quote said $50 plus $25 for postage back, but the instructions for sending it off and what the timeline for when they receive it and send it back said they would cover the postage back.
