Esbit tablets in the uk?

Are they smelly? And do they make the bottom of a pot sticky
Well, they are Hexamine, so yes they smell.
There's a little bit of soot on pot base, but not as brown n sticky as some tabs I've used. Only burnt the one so far though, continual use will likely build up.

Back to sources of Hexi for us reprobates who insist on using it.
@edh @Run_Hike_Meat_Repeat

I just bought a load of this military hexamine fuel which is a new type to me.. Ordered yesterday and arrived today.

The fuel is packaged in foil backed bubblepacks similar to the 14g Esbit tabs. 6 tabs to a sealed ziplock. You get 2 bags for 96p.

The tabs are 11g on our digital scales.

I tested one, and it easily boiled 500ml water (570 pot in sidewinder cone)in a reasonable time. There was a significant amount of fuel left when rolling boil commenced.

An 11g tab is actually more useful quantity to me for how I use it, than a 14g tab. So I'm happy with this.

Tabs are similar shape as a 14g Esbit tabs, just not quite as deep, so will fit in a Ti Wing burner or Gram Cracker.

Great value at this price - equates to paying £1.63 for 8 x 28g tabs (box of old British Army Hexi). Plus delivery of course.

I bought 16 packs, so 192 tabs. For me, with pubs/cafes on trips too, that is about 40 days worth of fuel for when I'm solo. Was £20 delivered next day.
Cheers👌 I saw that site and was sceptical at the price. Any spitting when lighting?
I've some old genuine esbit that were mil surplus (not the ones I was selling a couple of years back) and they have sort of crystallised on the surface and spit when lighting.
I can get genuine esbit at £3 quid a box but I'm with you on the 11g slightly smaller size being a benefit. It usually takes around 3/4 of a block to get my boil of a approx 450ml - 500 rolling and finish up with small chunks that I clump. Together after a few brews.
2 x 11g would be ideal for steak & eggs in the bigger cooker 👍

No spitting on the one I tried. The blocks have a very smooth clean dry surface to them.

1st time I've tried the Esbit cooker as a dry oven...light smear of lard on the pan base, add Morries Steak n ale stodge.
2 esbits, 28 minutes total after I flipped it to crisp the top.
Bottom of the pie, started burning around the 20 minute mark. I reckon it was already cooked by then.
Next test, M&S Steak n ale Pie...
I think I'll put a square of Ti under the pie, and remove the pie from it's foil halfway through. IMG_20240426_120440.jpgIMG_20240426_123050.jpgIMG_20240426_123524.jpgIMG_20240426_123901.jpg

'Wild-camping' 🤣
Sorry, always cracks me up that moniker. Camped in some salty weather after some gritty hiking... But never considered it as wild camping.
I'll leave that kind of thing to the pro's 😊
As US-based, I’d never even heard that phrase until I started reading this forum and watching some of the videos pointed to from here. I use it sarcasticly/tongue-in-cheek.

Been looking for some replacement esbit tablets for a while. I have tended to use them more as a back up to Bio-ethanol.

Thanks to the discussion on this thread and to @Mole's comments, I've placed an order for 10 packs of the tablets that he bought from EVAQ8. :)

Looks to be great value compared to Esbit which is getting hard to find and too pricey when I do.

Yep a big thank you to @Mole - I collected 20 packs yesterday.

I live in West London so cycled along to evaq8 thus avoiding the £5 delivery charge.

I don't bother with hot food in the warmer months so solid fuel tabs are perfect for a few cups of instant coffee each day.

I still had a few packs of esbit in stock so now I'm good for a couple of years...!

Great. Glad you are both taking advantage.

I'm just making a brew right now.
Visibility is about 50m, so a good nav test for the year 9s.
