Going even more off-topic...I was in Wroclaw a few weeks ago. Didn't see anyone in green football shirts and shorts. Was fairly nippy though.
Trying to get this thread back on topic, does anyone know of a hiking-friendly travel version of this game? I haven't played it since I was a wee scout and would like to give it a go again. Somewhat related, does anyone know of a good compilation of Vera Lynn songs to use as background music during games?
We turned up on a motorbike trip on Monday afternoon, September 2014. A long way to go to find that it was shut. Next morning we called in around 9am because one of the guys had an obituary from the Times that he wanted to give them. They opened the museum up early for us and we had a free guided tour. The picture is of two of our bikes near to the exit from "Harry" before we nearly make our escape to Switzerland, which is a lot further than it was in the movie
Ooo, I have that. It must be almost 30 years old, or more. Sadly missing a couple of wooden men and the box is well worn. It's not small, you might need a larger tent. Possibly something equally retro, Black's of Grenoch's Niger springs to mind. Something like https://www.glasgowscoutshop.com/2262/products/blacks-icelandic-i-tent.aspx. maybe.
Yes. Escape from Colditz from way back when. I've no idea how it has aged (it's probably very clunky) but I do have fond memories of playing this after a day of hiking (we'd bring the troop games when basecamping in a hut during winter break camp).
Ooo, that brings back some memories. Boy were they heavy! Even if we only ever carried them from the trailer behind the Land Rover to just across the field...
We went to Colditz Castle on our Great Escape trip. Part of it is a youth hostel now, so you can go and experience it for yourself. https://www.jugendherberge.de/en/youth-hostels/colditz-schloss-698/portrait/
I may do that one day even though I have near-zero interest in the Great Escape. My granddad was in Zagan a few decades ago. He didn't see anyone in green football shirts and shorts either. But it is very, very likely he saw these guys: Stalag VIII-C football team.
