Hi to all from sunny, and currently very hot Australia. My name is Tim Savage, I'm from Canberra, and I have been a walker/hiker for approximately 40 years. Most of my walking has been day hikes but over the past 10 years I have undertaken a number of overnight and overseas longer walks. I am looking at doing some of Australias 'long walks' over the next few years and combined with an ageing body have become more interested in ultralight hiking (as far as it is practical). I'm an obsessive information gatherer and will typically spend between 6-18 months gathering every bit of information that I can to plan my hike. I'm an ex rock climber (due to injury) and a three season hiker, and while I have done some limited mountaineering in Switzerland am not a fan of the ice.

I have a working background in horticulture and landscape architecture, and am currently working in Indigenous heritage for the Australian Government (long story buts its all connected). I completed my landscape architecture degree six years ago where I found myself doing two major projects designing hiking trails. I also have a keen interest in 'place making' which is essentially trying to work out why we connect to particular places and how we can improve the connection.

When I not working or walking I garden, cook and exercise (including more walking).

My obsessive thirst for learning and information gathering has led me to recently launching a hiking website and podcast http://www.australianhiker.com.au which at the moment is a non commercial website however this may change in the future, hence my forum name.

I look forward to involving myself in the forum and getting to know everyone.

Hi Tim, welcome and I enjoyed reading your quick bio - all very intriguing - hiking trail design and heritage work - sounds ace.....I bet I'm not the only one on here who'd chuck it all in for that job mate!

Took a quick look at your website (loaded pretty slow by the way), the Trails section looks great and loved the Bushbash photo, can't get enough reading :geek:

Looking forward to hearing more :)

It was the homepage Tim that took a while the other day, the rest of the site loaded pretty fast. Tried again this morning and it wasn't too bad.

Currently enjoying your Canberra Centennial Trail podcast btw while typing :)

Thanks Graham, I think the speed issue was a large influx of people hitting the site at the same time, funnily enough from the UK.

This is brilliant, I grew up walking all over Mt.Taylor. We use to go straight up it from the Torrens side and then wander, neither Sulwood Drive or Kambah/Tugeranong were there in the early days.

Added: Tim your site is bringing back loads of really happy memories of Canberra, the Brindies and Namadgi. :)

Good decision you made choosing Bhutan.
Nepal so busy now, unless you go out to the restricted areas, which cost a load of £/$'s now:(

    Thank Lady Grey,
We have only been up and going since Mid November 2016 and creating content is a slow process some time. I'm aiming for 4 new articles a week so hopefully by the end of the year it wont appear so empty. So many ideas and so little time.
