Has anyone ever found a lightweight map case? I'm hoping to get a trip abroad this summer and the only maps I can get hold hold are unwaterproofed paper.

Depending on the map I just use a zip lock freezer bag.

That's my backup option, and there are some A3 and A4 ziplock plastic wallets kicking about at work that I should be able to liberate.

I use an Ortlieb A4 document case, good for printed A4 sheets but probably crap for folded traditional maps

Cheers Rich, I'll check the size because they seem a little smaller than OS maps.

I use an aquapac map case. It’s not especially lightweight but it is very waterproof, robust and double sided. Being double sided you can usually fold the map in such a way that you get a whole days walking on view without having to refold in the wet or wind. The side fixings mean you can change the way the map is hung to keep it orientated or customise to suit (I’ve used it on my bike and canoe). I often attach the case to the rucksack with a short length of cord and a carabiner so I can I unclip it to look at the map and reattach to it does not get lost.

You could cut map and laminate sections...

Ive done that in the past - gone on holiday, changed my walking area and had to buy another map!

I use self adhesive clear film covering off the roll, big roll for full maps & smaller roll for osi maps that only have a small part I need.

I’ve got a Silva map case somewhere which I used on my ML training, if I can find it I’ll check the weight.
I’m not into the flappy map case thing trying to strangle me in windy weather, so I probably won’t ever use it again

I'm not bothered about it having a strap because I won't be hanging it around my neck. Unless I'm walking around Keswick in my gaitors of course.

You could have this one for £5 to POGO. It’s ortleib. 60g. I haven’t used it for years.
