How much fuel would you carry at any one time, for a long distance trip? I’m going back and forth about what size container to take. I’ll probably only be able to find file in 1l bottles, not very light weight.
I see most people use a bottle 250ml or smaller but then I’d be leaving 3/4 of the file I buy behind....
The amount of fuel used varies with the individuals setup & diet (how many cups of coffee/ day), I get along with 60ml/ day during the summer but generally find myself carrying a little excess.
My collection of fuel bottles for various lengths of trip:
1/ 150ml fuel bottle (LDPE), good for 2 nights. Trail Designs, came with the Caldera & fits neatly inside the cone/ pot for carriage; consequently it always get packed.
2/ 100ml cosmetics bottle (PET), good as an add-on to 1/ for an additional night or 2 in summer.
3/ 250ml fuel bottle (LDPE), Vargo. Adds 4 nights to 1/
4/ 500ml bottle (LDPE), repurposed ‘'
16oz Slime’ bottle. Adds 7 - 8 days to 1/. Some use a 500ml soda bottle (PET) but with my OCD traits I like something a little more robust & these are <10g heavier.
With your Speedster there’s no need to measure fuel just fill (not overflowing) & fire up…..blow out the flame when done & cap when cooled to ‘save’ the unused fuel.
A word of caution: alcohol (liquid & vapour) will corrode the aluminium container (including the anodised coating), particularly the threads. Don’t store the stove for long periods with any fuel in it, burn it out (as advised by Speedster). My MYO stoves have a silicone gasket to ensure a good seal to mitigate this (as does the Trail Designs Kojin), an improvement that perhaps Speedster should consider.
