A nice rain kilt would drop weight....

Also stylish; others will chime in about wind and so forth...but..

    ...over trousers SUCK

Your trousers can Suck ? - the mind boggles :wideyed:

I'm inclined to agree with ed, my rain kilt weighs 50 something grams and keeps water off the important parts of my lower body. My feet and ankles get wet anyway in trail runners. Worth considering for anything outside winter imo.

I'm inclined to agree as well, overtrousers do generally suck but are a necessary evil to be endured when required with combinations and tastes to suit. A comparison to sprouts and chestnuts with what layer system to use.
No doubt some like sprouts and chestnuts but however you put then together they indeed suck!! IMO

Endured, really...are they though? Paramo troos, Neoshell troos?

Yep I think so. Are u confident paramo delivers with consistent rain and wind for hour after hour days on end in winter conditions. I'm not!!

    Oh!!!
    For overnight hillwalking
I'm happy with a baselayer cut below knee. HH lifas. Or prefer my howies merino with a pair of goretex Lw over trousers. Combo works for me. Winter conditions.
    Summer don't use over trousers.

    Sorry currently using paclites.

I call a skirt a skirt BTW. After how many stiles - having to lift their rain skirt - would most people think "sod it" :banghead: In my case it was about half a dozen. I'd got a MYO silnylon rain skirt, it was light and actually worked pretty well in wind and rain. It got turned into a groundsheet extension for a few days and it was then posted home with some maps as 42g of dead weight. I'll keep a tally of SWCP stiles, maybe..

My KILT is split - you can readily curtsy in it, no need for lifting....

From Ed's perspective - I don't think there are too many stiles on the JMT, PCT etc. ……………………….. but plenty 'blow downs' ………….:hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

I cloned the MLD "Rain Kilt" had a popper at the hem and half-way up the 'garment'. Just didn't work for me.

Of course if you want lightweight and cheap you can go Frogg Togs (about £15 on eBay).

One of my American 'buddies' uses them and rates them pretty well.

Or cut a hole in orange bivi survival bag. Stick head through hole. Use belt to tie poncho.

No worse than frogg's!! Cheaper 2.
