Moment DW - Too Small?

I'm thinking of getting a Tarptent Moment DW with the solid inner for a windy / bad weather tent.

I'm wondering if at 6'3 it will be too small though. Ideally I want to be able to change clothes in it and sit to cook in the porch. Any thoughts?

For reference I currently use a Duomid with Solomid inner. This is a bit wider than my mat, but enough room to sort myself out. Solid inner doesn't work for my height due to the sagginess of solid inners and the slope of the walls.

One vaguely considered a Copper Spur HV too, but decided I prefer the moment due to thicker mesh, seems more storm worthy? And outer first.

The Scarp is the other option, but it's a fair bit heavier....

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Moment DW doesn't pitch right to the ground - 2" gap along the sides.
A mod shortening the poles is possible - I'm told - I am thinking of doing this on mine.

I'm a small female and cooking in the porch on a blustery pitch wasn't so easy - I found the porch a bit small - I am used to a really big porch on my own MYOG Mid.
I cannot say how you will fit in the inner - it's plenty big for me but at 5'3" that's a lot less than you.

I've never used a Scarp but it's capabilities in windy conditions is well know.

Am 5'10" I fit fine in the moment, I have 2 chances of touching the inner, one if I was to use a winter bag it will touch at the foot, and two while sitting up I may rub my head on the inner before reaching the centre.
At your height I can only assume that both of these things will affect you more than they have me in use.
I find the porch adequate, they are small but as there are two I can store gear in one and cook in the other.

Thanks for the input, maybe sounds like the moment night be slightly too small... I definitely don't want to worry about my bag pushing on the inner.

Regarding the dipole, I'd prefer not to have a trekking pole tent partially because I have a tenancy to snap poles occasionally if I get them caught which l while walking and secondly because I find trekking pole tents awkward to pitch well if it's a less than ideal bit of ground

If you are familiar withe the Notch - or know someone who would let you have a "look around" one - they have similar size/space.
Moment is wider (variable) but not quite so high in the middle.

The Notch is hip wide in the middle and tapers towards the ends. There is just enough room for a full length NeoAir mat but no more. Anything you put down, torch, watch, socks etc will disappear under your mat. I can just about sit up in the middle of the tent I'm 5' 9", if that helps.

The Notch and Moment may be narrow at the ends, but they are long so there should be reasonable headroom when laying down

I find the Moment DW pretty spacious being only 175cm tall.
The sliding inner is useful as you can minimise your storage porch (my parlance) and have more room in the other porch; there is quite a lot of room by my side if needed, but I put most stuff at the head end (poss an issue for you).
Its very solid in harsh weather (might want to peg out the mid-point hems) - especially with the crossing pole deployed.
It pitches so fast its funny! The Scarp takes a fair bit longer (I've used both) but is way more spacious.

If you are keen on a bendy pole tent the Rainbow might be worth looking at - its taller inside, longer, and more consistently wide than the Moment DW. If you haven't broken your walking poles  you can also use them to make it into a freestander.

Pedant mode: The Moment DW is higher inside than the Notch :whistling:

Yup.

Quote @edh - "Its very solid in harsh weather"
- It's the Moment Li I have so maybe the Sil version pitches closer to the ground - I don't know.
I found the wind blowing under the fly and around inside the porch, making it unpleasant and cooking awkward. This was in strong blustery conditions.

I'm possibly more cautious than many when it comes to my expectations of a tent's capabilities to withstand challenging weather.

At 5'10" both the Scarp and Notch are spacious enough for me, my gear, and a standard Thermarest. But it's the Scarp I choose if the weather forecast is unstable, or if I want greater space. The Notch has become my lightest-option tent which I know will still hold up if things get a bit wilder than expected.

I think I share your caution with challenging weather. I’ve tried a few of the lightweight options and they have never lived up to expectations.

I go out to enjoy the experience not battle with rattling and flapping materials.

It might be a different matter if I restricted pitches towards valleys and forests, but jousting with the elements is far too risky IMO.
