My Brew Kit ..thread for your stove set up

The Epicurean works well for me, about four months continual use; I'm going back to it after a brief flirtation with meths.
Ed, are you using it with the sidewinder/Evernew 900/600?
I recently got the TD Ti sidewinder but have yet to use it with Esbit.

What is it about Esbit that you prefer, Ed? I have an unused Gram Cracker or two and a limited supply of Esbit.

So I need to get into an alcohol stove.. if I'm not wanting to drown myself in days of research, is the Stormin TI system the weigh to go? (I know there is no simple answer and alcohol stoves seem a much more hotly debated topic than gas stoves, but..)

Trail Designs for me too - after I realised Trangia wasn't going to do what I needed and was 'overweight' as well.

Yeah I like the look of the trail designs system, but to the undiscerning eye I cannot see why it might be better or worse?

Shipping costs was the other concern with trail designs here

I'd be interested in reasons to choose between stormin/td.
Always had good service from Norman and the kit is immaculately made. I'll be putting an order in to him for a one piece ti cone for my new toaks 900 when he starts making again.

What do people use under their stomin stoves? I use my esbit burner holder with it so I can move it around easily/safely (without the cone) but unless the ground is super flat it can be a tad awkard.

I use the folding plate Norman sells, but you can use a base of a flimsy metal takeaway tray.

I also use a trimmed-down foil pie dish. It is lighter than a baseplate and rolls up neatly inside the rolled-up cone when stored. Had a ‘near miss’ last week when the burner kept sliding around on it due to unlevel ground. Currently working on a solution involving three or four short metal pins which will secure the base to the ground while also preventing the burner moving from the central position.

I thought of using a pie dish but worried that it might be too flimsy. Looking at ti plates atm, at least I'll have a plate/ chopping board option as well.

Looking at the joules per gram of different fuels, and after trying to get iso to burn without sooting unsuccessfully, what I think needs investigating is a new clever passive way of using petrol. Almost twice the energy density of meths and cheap. Pump stoves are great but a little heavier than the 10g stoves we are used to. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a way to get petrol to pressurize and change phase to gas passively, perhaps with a little preheating. Maybe not inside a shelter with a heath Robinson device though...

I cut the bottom off an Alu drinks can and inverted that. For my tiny burners it kind of 'cradles' them and stops them sliding about. Very cheap and only a few grams.
Not sure how big the Stormin'burner is and if it would fit.

Minimalist brewkit:

Evernew 400 Companion cup.
Homemade thin Ti foil windscreen (originally made forToaks 550 before I made a cone)
Homemade Wick stove and Spoke potstand.
Homemade Flashing cook lid
Foil baseplate
Nido lid sip lid which snaps on.

Without spoon or lighter, it's less than 100g.
There is room for the latter plus 30ml alcohol in bottle and teabags/coffee sachets.

Fun for a minimal summer kit or emergency brewkit in day bag.

Can see myself using this backpacking on lowland trails where food etc available along the route - coast path etc.

I haven't a spare right now, could send one some time in future.
But maybe put a wanted up?

Only thing is, it may not snap over the CF lid too. It's tight alone, my flashing lid is thin and sits just inside the pot circumference...
