MYOG Hell Pack

Ive been at home for 10 days but hadn’t really felt like sewing until 2 days ago. Then for some reason I just felt like it, so off I went making 2.5 new packs in 2 days. This was the first:

This was an attempt at something along of the lines of the MLD Hell. Sat down and planned it all out... then realised I didn’t have enough fabric left for the size I’d planned so just freestyled it making it up as I went.

The wrap around front pocket is made from duramesh and is divided in to 2 by the Venom webbing axe loop/daisy chain/top strap. I usually avoid Venom for anything using buckles as it slips but it just about seems to hold with the pictured g-hook (Extrem). We shall see, I may end up swapping out the top strap for normal webbing if it starts to slip.

Part way through the sewing I found an old skull patch in the sewing box and added it to the front. I quickly regretted it though and removed it. A little bit to doom and gloom for the current climate. I did however go online and order a replacement:

Which will give this pack it’s name, the ‘break free’ :p time will tell if it actually makes it on to the pack :asshat:

This one used up the last of my rbtr grey, black, and green HDPE Gridstop and also the last of my duramesh.

320g.

Killer job. I was born to love the asym styling of it of it.

Hope the Venom lasts OK; I dislike the stuff intensely now, it buckles under pressure.

Can you reach the side pockets when wearing it?
When I saw Ron's video, I thought his pack looked to sit very high at base level.

Thanks. Yeah weird stuff isn’t it. I can’t see me buying any more. It’s been ok for the odd loop etc but anything with adjustable buckles etc it isn’t great.

Great work. Obviously we are heading back to KISS! :D

Thanks :)

Cheers. Yes and no for the pocket. As it’s a wrap around it was designed more to be secure than accessible whilst wearing it. Didn’t want stuff in the pocket dropping towards a low side and potentially working it’s way out. I can get a bottle out whilst wearing the pack by shuftying it up from the outside of the pocket but I’d never get it back in again.

@theoctagon matt did you dial in mesh when you did running vest style backpack. Looking for something with no stretch and more breathable to standard 3D mesh used for straps?
thanks

I settled on two back to back layers of 3D mesh and it seems to be working well. Fairly light, seems breathable, comfy. The amount of stretch is some what controlled through a combination of the binding material/stitching/adding extra (less stretchy) material between the two layers etc.

I’ve got some of this stuff on the way to try on the DCF one I’m making at the mo

Yeah same stuff  It’s shipped but not arrived yet so I’m not exactly sure how I’ll tackle the stretch or even end up using it. It’ll be a while now before I do any more sewing though as it’s back to work for me
